Commercial Description:
The Captain is leader of a fire crew. This beer takes charge of your taste buds with its rich flavor. Roasty malt character that has hints of chocolate and coffee which balances the smooth, velvety finish. The thick, creamy head lasts and lasts, leaving lace in your glass as your beer disappears. This beer pairs well with food. Great with dinner or as breakfast or even with a rich vanilla-bean ice cream. 1.060 OG 31 IBU 6%ABV

Bottle. Dark brown pour with a thin tan head. Aroma is heavily roasted malt, coffee, and chocolate. The flavor is the same, a little toasted malt in the mix as well. Lots of coffee and roasted malt.

Pours an opaque black with a delicious chocolate head that is sticky and laces steadily. Smells of roasted coffee beans, ground coffee beans and minimal malt and caramel. Finishes with a bite of hops. Medium in the mouth with some nice carbonation. Drinkability is decent, it’s not a sipper but it’s not a session beer. Overall a tasty offering.

11-11-07 bottle shared with lb4lb (thanks Miketd!!)
Black color with average head. Roasted malt aroma. Smooth - but a bit thin. Not as flavorful or creamy as I wanted - but decent roasted flavor and nice aroma.

Notes from a long night say, "A black ass beer with a nice tan head." Smells of roast and some sweet chocolate and maple. Flavor is the same pleasant roast, chocolate, and a touch of maple. Finishes dry and roasty. A nice nightcap.

Thanks to whoever brought this! Poured deep brown with about ½” of creamy beige head sticking around.. lots of apparent carbonation. The aroma picked up lightly-toasted, semi-sweet chocolates with a touch of coffee and some airy piney hoppage.. a building infection was apparent, giving off building vinegary sourness as it warmed up. The flavor was marred to a greater degree by the infection, with lactose and vinegary off notes apparent in every facet of the drink.. caramel and semi-sweet chocolate at the core, and there wasn’t a lot of hop presence to note. Very highly carbonated (perhaps due to the infection).. nice feel at first, but the sourness threw it off when it kicked in.
