Commercial Description:
The Captain is leader of a fire crew. This beer takes charge of your taste buds with its rich flavor. Roasty malt character that has hints of chocolate and coffee which balances the smooth, velvety finish. The thick, creamy head lasts and lasts, leaving lace in your glass as your beer disappears. This beer pairs well with food. Great with dinner or as breakfast or even with a rich vanilla-bean ice cream. 1.060 OG 31 IBU 6%ABV

Thanks to cbkschubert for this one. Pours onyx, allowing very little light through, with 2-fingers of khaki head. This one looks great. Aroma is dark malt, chocoff, molasses, figs, sour mashy tart cherry notes. Again, I smelled this one for a full 2-3 minutes, as I really enjoyed the nose. The taste was rather tart, with lactic and cherry notes, some blackberry, roasty chocolate malt. Complex palate, which reminded me a little of a less funky, better balanced JP Madragura Obscura mixed with a little Hoppin Frog Boris. Very unique, and I enjoyed this one a great deal.

Bottle. Big thanks to cbkschubert for sending me this one. Pours a deep black body with nice head. Aroma is grassy hops, burnt coffee. Flavor is bitter chocolate, coffee, hops and a very carbonated body. Light mouthfeel for the style. I’m not getting any oatmeal sweetness in this one. Still a pretty good stout.

Pours black with a light tan head. Smell is milky, roasted malt and metal at first. Body is a bit too thin, but not too bad. Decent roasty flavor with a hint of chocolate. Watery finish, and I had a hard time deciding how much I liked this one. Didn’t get the oatmeal creaminess as listed in the description. Decent, but very forgettable.

22 oz bottle, via fordest. Pours a clear dark brown body under a rather large fizzy brown head that seems a little excessive. Thick patchy lacing. The nose is a nice aggressive blend of roast and coffee with a light chalkiness. Some milk chocolate and light hops. The flavor is all roast up front with the chocolate and coffee emerging on the moderately bitter finish. A late lingering chalky dryness comes out long after the swallow. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a fairly soft feel, but the carbonation is just way too active, foaming on contact with the tongue. Overall, this beer was totally solid, save for the carbonation issue. Leting it breathe didn’t help either.

22. Thanks, Boboski! This is a nice little beer. Pours black with a dirty tan head. Not much lace. Nice chocolate, cola, and pepper nose. Medium body, firm carb, big forward chocolate, roast, and metal flavors right from the first. Good stuff.

On draft at O’Briens. Arrived in the glass black and opaque. Aroma of coffee, chocolate and milk, herbal and floral notes as well. Roasty malts, bitter chocolate, milk, clover and honey in the flavor. Medium to full body, creamy smooth and gently carbonated. Nice little stout!
