Commercial Description:
The Captain is leader of a fire crew. This beer takes charge of your taste buds with its rich flavor. Roasty malt character that has hints of chocolate and coffee which balances the smooth, velvety finish. The thick, creamy head lasts and lasts, leaving lace in your glass as your beer disappears. This beer pairs well with food. Great with dinner or as breakfast or even with a rich vanilla-bean ice cream. 1.060 OG 31 IBU 6%ABV

Disappointing. Dark brown pour, almost blach, creamy mocha head. Nice lacing. Nose is metallic and tart, with notes of chocolate and espresso. Smells and tastes a lot like a dry stout. Flavor is sour mash, burnt coffee and bitter chocolate. Finish is again sour/metallic, medium length. Medium bodied. Was hoping for more.....highly overrated.

Draft, O’Briens. Pours a very dark, brownish black color; light tan head with patchy lacing. Creamy roasted and chewy milk chocolate in the aroma; light vanilla notes. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: dense, milk chocolate and soft roasted malts at the forefront; creamy, toasty vanilla and chocolate-tinged stout; exceptionally drinkable and generous. Lengthy, milk chocolate and creamy roasted malt finish. Excellent, excellent stout.

Bottle shared by EDA. Dry, slightly roasty passion fruit aroma. Brad, boring flavor. Odd, lactic sweetness seems misplaced, and the beer in general feels really off-kilter. Not a fan.

Bomber from KingG, Thanks; Nose of chocolate, roastiness, and light coffee notes; Almost opaque but clear very dark brown with a medium tan head; flavor is chocolate, coffee, and light smoke with a tingly mouthfeel. Good stout but no where near outstanding!

Bottle from Markus and served in my Stone IRS snifter: Pours deep brown with an initial huge rocky head which fades to a beige covering, okay lace. The aroma has notes of chocolate and coffee, smoke and roast, grassy and herbal hops, a hint of apple and plum.

The taste is a well balance approach of sweet malt, bitter hop and coffee, acidic twangy fruit, and a hint of ashy smoke. A hybrid that has equal parts sweet stout and equal parts dry stout in a refreshing package. The mouth feel is sprite and dry, a bit metallic however. Overall a very serviceable stout.

22oz bottle, no date. Deep brown with a 1/2 finger tan head, pretty good retention. Brown sugar, roasted malts, milk chocolate, and light ash. More sweet than roasty. Added soy and tobacco strangely make their way into the flavor, which was not expected, but I thought was quite nice--nothing like the aroma. Semidry ashy lightly tangy finish, and not in a bad way. As this warms some light pine. Some bitterness lingers. Medium body with a light to moderate carbonation. Very good beer.

My bottle (650ml) shared with HogTownHarry, biegaman & Viggo -- courtesy of toncatcher. Pours a very dark brown with a large mostly-lasting creamy light-brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, piney hops and dark fruit. Very tasty flavour of roasted malt, dark fruit, coffee, piney hops and a hint of chocolate -- quite dry too. Medium bodied. A very good Stout, well done!

On tap at the Liar’s Club. Pours a dark, tobacco tinged black color with some transparent edges of worn leather. A creamy head of tan sits quietly on top. Some earthy coffee and maple wood smoke are present in the nose, along with some pruney, raisiny yeast fruits. Medium bodied, creamy mouthfeel. There’s a pleasant oat-like slickness on the palate initially, but it thins out and gets a bit watery mid-palate. Earthy coffee and medium roast chocolate start out the flavors, along with a bit of sugary fruits, but this thins out and gets a bit watery. As it finishes, a huge wave of wood smoke piles in to keep it interesting. A balancing dose of minty hops also makes in appearance in the finish, drying up some of the malt sweetness pleasantly. The flavors are pretty good overall, but I didn’t like the thinness of the palate and in-cohesive flavor interruption this provided.
