Commercial Description:
The Captain is leader of a fire crew. This beer takes charge of your taste buds with its rich flavor. Roasty malt character that has hints of chocolate and coffee which balances the smooth, velvety finish. The thick, creamy head lasts and lasts, leaving lace in your glass as your beer disappears. This beer pairs well with food. Great with dinner or as breakfast or even with a rich vanilla-bean ice cream. 1.060 OG 31 IBU 6%ABV

Bottle. Pour a wonderfully rich black with a good cream head. Nose is very appealing, almost spoiled smelling. Lots of malt flavors, caramel and maple comes through as a nice pair. Thin, medium bodied, and refreshing on the palate. A mild bitter finish. A good beer. thin feel, thin feel, astringent,

Bottle. [thank you, myrup]
Pours deep chestnut brown, almost black. a big, creamy beige head. Aroma has lots of roasted malts, good fruitiness - some black currants, dark chocolate, doughy malts, light liquorice. Highish carbonation, okay mouthfeel. Flavour starts off with a fresh, zesty, tartness, lots of black currants. Then the beer turns drier and more stout’ish. Lots of chocolate, soft roasted malts and dry coffee in the finish. Very refreshing, long aftertaste.

Bottle@BlindTastingSession. Aroma of black currant, coffee, black roasted malts and black chocolate. Dark ruby color, light brown head, good lace. Light but increasing sweetness, fruity sourness, nice steady bitterness. Red berries, black currant and chocolate. I don’t think this refreshing sourness is supposed to be there (but the bottle wasn’t that old, just a couple of months) but it did suite very well.

On NITRO at O’Brien’s in San Diego. First of all, I love this beer. But when combined with nitro, it’s simply wonderful! A fantastic creamy off-white, slightly chocolaty head that lingers quite long. The head makes it so scrumpschous and chewy, and the flavor doesn’t dissapoint either! Fantastic mild tones (very mild) of chocolate and coffee and vanilla, but a pronounced "fresh" flavor that comes from the carmel malts. Very sweet and dry and quite drinkable. I’m a huge fan... especially on NITRO!!

Bottle... Pours pitch black with a huge, frothy, light brown head. Decent retention. Creamy, chocolaty nose with hints of soy sauce and tobacco. Medium to full-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and lazy carbonation. Chocolaty flavor... bittersweet. Finishes a tad burnt and ends up fairly dry.

Attractive deep brown pour with a full tan head. The nose os sweet and leather like. The flavor is astringent and overly sweet with a strange, sour finish that lingers.

On tap. Pours dark brown with tan head. Some lacing on the glass. Milk chocolate aroma, and very milk chocolate flavor, with a little roasted, sweet malt and a slight hop bitterness.
