Pours a deep, completely hazed brown with a good sized milk chocolate colored head, not much lacing. The nose was amazing! Tons of chocolate, toffee and roasted malts. One of the better stouts I’ve come across in a while. deftim13 (103), California, USA

Pours pretty close to pitch black. Nice 1 finger mocha head. Smell is chocolate, roasted malt and little bit of coffee. Taste is chocolate and a whole lot of roast. Carbonation was high but seemed to work well for the flavor profile. Decent stout but a little one dimensional. pantanap (1369), Chicago, Illinois, USA

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 23, 2008 Opaque and midnight brown in color with a lasting creamy tan head. Aroma signals shingles, black patent and black licorice all rolled into one. Rudimentary scorched hazelnut caramels also caress the nose. Flavor is met with high carbonation, subsiding to a lactic mocha frill. Brownie batter with a tinge of tin transitions into a gooey fudgie batter. Almond spread gets lightly burnt and then spattered with cappuccino yogurt. Dry, bitter dust comes in after the careening is over and it’s ever patient for the carbonation to subside. A finish laden with lactic chocolate and spent mocha grinds taken from the tin close the show. Thanks for the bomber, tpkenned! ¾ (5006), Boulder, Colorado, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Feb 21, 2008 Deep brown pour with a large-bubbled, tall-building brown head, and the distinct scent of acidic yeast wastes no time in hitting the nose... harsh, spicy, acidic mildew and salt all over this thing, with the roast and chocolate malt hidden away somewhat. Over-carbonated, acidic, slick, oily, yeast and sharp up front, thinning out even more than it begins, but at least the flavors turn more towards something enjoyable, with some roast, some sharp chocolate malt, some toast and some char tasted. An OK stout, but I know there must be something wrong with my bottle. It’s not a huge infection, but it’s in there. jcwattsrugger (5578), Florida and, New Jersey, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 9, 2008 on tap-pours a patchy light brown head and black color. Aroma is dark malt-chocolate/licorice/coffee. Taste is dark malt-coffee/chocolate, secondary bitter hops. Rich full body. OK carbonation. Not my style, but nice and Joe would love this. doubleo (1121), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 2, 2008 22oz bomber. This bottle says 6%abv.
Pours a murky chocolatey brown color with a thin light brown head. Head fades quick and leaves very little lace.
One of the most roasty and toasty brews that I’ve sniffed. Very roasty malts on the nose. Tastes as toasty as it smells. Nice warm malt flavors, chocolate, coffee, even a little alcohol which is strange due to the relatively low abv. Full and a bit on the thick side, which I like for a stout. Good crisp carbonation. Great stout. I like ’em higher in alcohol, but that’s just me.
