padrefan98 (658), (San Diego) Santee, California, USA Apr 28, 2008 Bottle purchased at the brewery and shared with some other guy. Awesome attempt of a sour ale. Good going Alpine. Keep it up. You are just scratching the surface of a style that needs more representation in the US market. Loved it!
kramer (1952), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 31, 2008 25 oz bottle. Pours a clear orangish body with a very thin fizzy off-white head that completely vanished within seconds. Pretty nice nose, cherry skins and pits, oak, brett, minimally sour, but no real suggestions that this is a real lambic, no cobwebs or super funkiness. The flavor is a really nice balance of fruit and bretty funk making this really nicely drinkable. Not tart or even sour really, just a nice bretty funk. I like the oaky undertones, and the almost almond like pitty notes. I don’t like the almost complete lack of sour and tart notes, the short finish, and the slightly thin delicate body. Mouthfeel is fairly dry with fizzy light carbonation. Finishes too quickly, it really just feels a little too loose and thin. It’s a good effort, I like where the base of this was, but it’s not quite there. Unfortunately, I don’t think that any age will make it any better. Get some more funky lambic yeast going on in here! trokini (941), San Diego, California, USA Oct 15, 2008 Pours reddish copper, lots fo carbonation, and a flat white head. Vinuous cherry nose, some oak and malt, almost like a cherry cobbler. Pucker-type sour as opposed to the bretty-dank sour. Good blalance of the sour cherry and sweeter malt, tempered by the oak and vanilla flavors. A bit medicinal at times, but not enough to ruin the beer. Always a treat with Alpine. Odeed (1500), Bakersfield, California, USA Oct 8, 2008 dusty rose in color with no head.aroma is slightly funky with some cherries, oak, and orange.flavor is the same with a slightly medicinal aftertaste that i did not care for. darkguardian (205), Florida, USA Oct 7, 2008 22oz bottle from Cheeseman at one our tastings (working through a backlog here). Pours a clodu pink with a funky puffy pink head. Tons of cherry taste with a slight sourness and nice notes of funk. A lot of oaky vanilla notes in this. I liked this more than most but its nowhere near as complex as some other sour ales from the west coast. IrishBoy (2201), Bakersfield, California, USA Oct 6, 2008 750ml bottle shared by Odeed; Nose is lightly funky with tart cherries, and oaky woodiness; Clear dark pink with a small pink-tinged head; Flavor was cherries, light tartness balanced by light sweetness; not very tart, would be better tarter!
