scraff (1921), Baltimore, Maryland, USA Jun 15, 2004 Clear amber with a perfect creamy off-white head. Loads of fresh hazelnut, vanilla, coffee, and a hint of chocolate in the nose. Could smell this one all day! Rich flavors of all of the above, but a slight hint of hops offers balance to keep it from being sweet. Full-bodied, very creamy, soft carbonation, lengthy nutella (chocolate & hazelnut) finish. Great stuff. It veers off the typical California hop path which makes it that much more fun to try. Thanks again Scotty V! hopscotch (5440), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Jun 14, 2004 This beer rocks!... Sparkling clear, deep amber ale with a small, creamy, off-white head. Lots of stratus lacing. The nose is awesome. Tons and tons of freshly roasted hazelnuts with lots of chocolate and a little coffee and vanilla. The flavor just about matches the aroma. Both are excellent. Very nutty and chocolatey. Well-balanced. Full-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Lengthy, chocolatey, nutty finish. Very, very rich! Thanks to ScottVacula for the growler! World class beer! Gusler (2655), Tucson, Arizona, USA Jun 14, 2004 Draught @ Alpine Brewery
The beer pours a deep black walnut color with a smallish off white head, and the lace a nice thin sheet. Nose is sweet malt, just the slightest hint of hazelnut, fresh and clean to the senses; start is sweet, nice malt presence. Finish is prickly in its acidity, the hops pleasing and benevolent, the aftertaste has a nice Hazelnut dry sweetness that is quite pleasant, wish I had a case of that one, but alas only available on draught.
Vac (2389), San Diego, California, USA Jun 7, 2004 This brew pours with an amber-orange body topped by a thick head with lots of lacing. The aroma is sweet and slightly malty with a nice bitter hoppiness and a slight nutty note. The flavor is slightly sweet yet bitter, malty and nutty with a nice hoppiness. medium bodied, tingly, slightly dry and warming.
