On-tap at the brewery and at Liar’s Club today. Pours cloudy orange with a sticky, off-white head, good lace. Smells earthy hoppy, very hoppy and grassy, with some grapefruit. Tastes of big, resiny, oily hoppiness. Lots of grassy flavor as well. Body is thick but not syrupy, good carbonation. As good as Hopsickle? I don’t know about that.

Growler from Brewery. Pours a thick, slightly hazy dark copper color. Aroma is a little sweet with a big skunky hop bitterness. Some grapefruit and pine is noticeable. Big citrus peel bitterness. Medium carbonation. A little sweetness and some malts. Quite bitter yet remains fairly smooth on the palate. Dry bitter hop finish. Alcohol is well hidden. Quite easy to drink for it’s strength.

Poured from the bottom of a growler that I picked up at the brewery today; beautiful crystal clear amber-orange color, a small but lasting off white head, pretty impressive for the last glass in the growler. Hoppy, piney, fruity and slightly sweet smell, some grapefruit and orange, maybe even pineapple, Big, bad hop bitterness, nice caramel maltiness, very full and soft palate, a warmth from the alcohol, almost a barley wine character. Seems strange to say, but it’s pretty mellow for a big hop bomb - and I mean that as a compliment.

Growler from brewery. Pours dark gold with a small 1 finger head. Strong citrus, pineapple and grassy hops. Light oak scent from the chips and a little bit of fruity esters. Taste is the same as the nose but with a little bit of spicy pepper. Very oily texture and dialed in carbonation. This is one big DIPA. Very balanced for having such a huge hop addition. Nice work!

Draught at Hollister Brewing Company. Dark gold with a sticky white head that laces. The aroma is citrus and flowery hops; not to over the top. The flavor has a good amount of sweet but clean malts. The hops are plentiful, but not overly bitter. Very flavorful with an herbal, woody quality. The alcohol is very well hidden. Balance is almost perfect. Palate is medium and smooth. The strength truly is dangerous. Tastes like a well balanced and flavorful IPA. I would never guess that is is as strong as it is. Very drinkable. (4) Rerate: growler from the brewery on release day last friday, consumed that night with the two buddies that I drove out there with. This is a glorious beer. Having this fresh on release day couldn’t have hurt, but this ws just stunning stuff, with the oak and tropical fruity hops working perfectly together in the aroma, and the flavor balancing sweetness and bitterness just so to hide the ridiculous 11.25% abv that this batch came out to. You would never guess that this beer is that strong, but the flavor is a pleasurable sensory overload. Alpine is quickly becoming one of my favorite breweries.
