Served on tap at the San Diego Brewers Guild Festival 2009. The appearance is a deep copper hue. The flavors and aromas are rich oak/cask, Jack Daniels, caramel, sweet malts, molten chocolate. Mouth is full and warm with a very smooth finish.

New batch sampled at the 2009 Pizza Port Strong Ale fest. Pours a deep murky caramel color with a small off white ring. Nose was bursting with vanilla, caramel, toffee and bourbon. Flavor held tons of bourbon flavor but not really boozy for being 14.1%. Got a little too sweet on the finish to be able to palate much more than a snifter. Great stuff overall.

Really good. On tap at the SD Strong Ale Fest 09. Dark brown pour, white head. Aged in Heaven Hill barrels, 14.1% abv. Toffee, sweet malt, caramel, bread, rich bourbon soaked, but not overpowering. Nicely done.

On draft at Pizza Port Strong Ale Festival 2009. Caramel brown pour with white head. Aroma and taste was coconut, bourbon, oak, chocolate. Low to medium carbonation but very smooth. Overall very enjoyable and you can’t tell its 14% alc.

2005 vintage. Pours hazy dark copper with an off-white head. Citrus and caramel nose. Smooth and creamy medium body and moderate carbonation. Caramel, biscuit and citrus in the taste.

2005 Bottle. Overall it had some good qualities of a BW but I feel past its prime. Sweet and oak with some vanilla but also some wet dog and cardboard. Some odd bitterness and dry too. Some bourbon shines through but any alcohol is well hidden. Not so great now, most likely better fresh or with one year on it.

375 ml bottle - 2005 vintage; thanks to westsidethreat for the trade; pours dark orange with slight haze; rich, strong, caramel, wood, bourbon, candy; drinks soft and silky smooth; very sweet and quite kick ass overall

375ml bottle shared by suzygreenberg. Pours a deep amber brown with an white head. Nose is sweet and bready maltiness. Hints of caramel, prune, oak and a touch of whiskey. Taste is has the flavors picked up from the nose with low carbonation and pretty smooth given the ABV. Thanks Ben!
