padrefan98 (658), (San Diego) Santee, California, USA Aug 8, 2007 This is a great beer. The Alpine stout has been improved. Amazing flavors of sour cherries, deep dark bitter chocolate, some port wine, and whiskey flavors. Amazing!!!
deftim13 (103), California, USA Mar 13, 2008 Tap at O’Brien’s.
Pours dark brown almost black with a small off white head. Chocolate, cherry, light funk, bourbon vanilla notes and earthy tones. Taste is rich chocolate, light sour cherry and tobacco. Some notes of whisky with grainy oak. Super rich mouthfeel with very light carbonation. Great job to Tom and Alpine. This was a real treat. papajohn (996), San Diego (Mira Mesa), California, USA Sep 13, 2007 Updated: Sep 16, 2007On tap@O’Brien’s: Jet black with a wisp of tan foam in the shape of a halo. Nose is coffee, chocolate, cherry. Flavor starts with cherry followed by some chocolate then some light tartness and a semi-dry, lightly sour finish with a hint of licorice in the aftertaste. Light body is smooth with soft carbonation. joebrew (608), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA Sep 1, 2007 Shared with Brewfiend, JK, and Skyview. Pours a gorgeous deep dirty mahogeny color with a tiny tan head. Great sour oakyness on the nose with some tart cherry and a light alcohol kick from the Jack. The flavor is wonderfully deep and complex with a touch of ripe cherries and a healthy dose of tart cherry as well as a complimentary kick that only Jack can give. There is a nice balance of brown sugar like sweetness to keep the beer from overpowering. Very, very nice beer, and one of few Whiskey/Bourbon/etc aged beers I could drink a lot of. jarspag (531), San Diego, California, USA Aug 31, 2007 Served cellar temp. Growler (prob one of the last) from the boys at Alpine... Completely unique for stout - can’t say I’ve really had one like it. Aroma showed more of the bourbon than the cherry. The flavor was the opposite - considerably funky/sour. Sour cherries were the showcase in the flavor - a really complex, different, and enjoyable brew. Cheers guys! Glad I got a sip of this stuff... Skyview (3029), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA Aug 22, 2007 Wow! Thanks goes to brewfiend for supplying this fine brew. Pours a new opaque dark brown brew with red highlights and a fast dissolving tan head. Aroma of dark chocolate, sour cherries, and oaky whiskey. Nearly has a light Flemish Sour character. Taste is full bodied, hardly any carbonation, with flavors of tart cherries, dark chocolate, and some tropical fruit. Finish is semi-sweet, bourbon/coconut flavor with a slight sour cherry aftertaste. Happy to have tried this one-time brew.
