Commercial Description:
Since “Willy” is so versatile and can be flavored with fruits and essences, we add a touch of vanilla extract to compliment the sweet nuttiness. Also good mixed with Captain Stout, a blend we call “The Captain and Vanil.”

Sampler at the brewery. Pours hazy golden, thin white head. Aroma of wheat and vanilla. Taste, sweet vanilla, light hops, overly smooth with excellent touch of the vanilla. Beer keeps a grainy palate and keep a wheat profile Simple, easy to drink, and overly tasty. I want more..

Growler at RBSG2008 Grand Tasting on 08/02/2008. Clear light golden body with a small white head. Caramel and vanilla aroma. Big vanilla flavor, with some light caramel. Medium body with moderate carbonation.

I picked up a growler while passing through Alpine to visit relatives. Appears a very bright straw color with nice clarity. Nose is very pleasant with the vanilla filling nicely in the background. The taste is very smooth, the wheat presence is light and perfect and the vanilla is not over done and peaks very well towards the end. I drank this entire growler and I wanted to turn around and grab two or three more on my way back. Awesome brew Pat, keep ’em coming~

Sampled at RBSG. I was quite suprised by this one. I have had many chances to get it, but never did. Finally decided to go for it at RBSG. Lots of vanilla on the aromas. Sweet malty flavors with more vanilla on the end. I liked it.

Draught @ Alpine Brewery

The beer pours a slightly hazy gold, the head white and creamy with the lace a thin sheet to seal of the glass. Nose is rich in sweet vanilla; fresh, very pleasing, start is quite sweet, nicely malted and the top light. Fair to middling carbonation, lightly hopped and the sweet vanilla last to the end of the aftertaste. A nice beer, not something I’d drink all the time, but something nice at the end of a long day when you want something light.

cloudy golden, little head if all. Smells much and very much like french vanilla ice cream. Tastes just like a vanilla cookie. For what it is, its really good.

A nice, light vanilla flavored ale from a great brewery. Not too sweet and kind of refreshing.

(Draft: Alpine Beer Company in Alpine, CA) I thought the basic Willy American Wheat was a very interesting beer, but the vanilla is a great addition and totally changes the complexion of this beer. It’s still pretty light flavored, but the vanilla jumps to the forefront, and lends a moderate sweetness. It’s lightly bitter, barely noticeable, and the mild wheat flavor stands behind the obvious vanilla dominance. Aromas of vanilla and wheat, as expected, are quite a treat. Light body, of course, since so is the basic Willy. Dark yellow in color. Pours with a decent sized head, off-white in color, but soon fades to a rim.
