JoeMcPhee (4893), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Oct 30, 2009 Deep brown pour with a thick and very persistent, tight brown head. The nose is lovely… quite vineous with a touch of barrel character, vanilla and a hint of light tartness. The vineousness is quite pronounced as it starts to warm up, with a bit of cognac-like sweetness. A little bit of licorice and black pepper as well. Fairly spicy with a long oaky/tannic finish. It’s kind of unusual but it really strikes up a nice balance of sweet and tart. I could see this pairing very nicely with wintery beef stews. CaptainCougar (5379), Rockville, Maryland, USA Oct 11, 2009 On tap: Pours a dark murky mahogany with a frothy, clingy-lacing light tan head. Aroma of black cherries and toasty dark caramel with a hint of tartness and biscuity malts. Starts with average fullness and a mild dark caramely sweetness with some earthy light fruity tartness before a slightly vinous oaky finish. An interesting brew that seems to be between styles. vtafro (452), , New Jersey, USA Oct 4, 2009 Ruby brown pour with some white head. Aroma was heavily influenced by candy sugar flavor given by the yeast base. Also some fruit flavors and spices. Nice. anders37 (4516), Malmö, Sweden Sep 13, 2009 Bottle. Pours a hazy dark amber color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity malty citrus aroma. Fruity malty citrus hoppy flavor with some spicy hints. Has a fruity malty spicy finish. bierkoning (5985), La Tropica, Netherlands Aug 21, 2009 Bottle. Gusher. Dark brown color. Oak and smoked ham in the aroma and flavor. Malt flavor with pear. Medium bodied. Vinous, alcohol fairly well hidden. Unexpected flavors in this Belgian Strong ale. sayravai (3720), Helsinki, Finland Aug 11, 2009 (Bottled) Clear dark red with a huge, slowly descending, lacy and beige, cloudy head. Aroma of dried fruit, caramely malt, hints of oak. Dried-fruity, sourish-caramely and slightly ashy flavor with some oaky tannins, berries, and hints of vanilla. Medium body, slightly thin, not much carbonation after the foam has settled. Not extremely enjoyable, and somewhat thin. Alvinne should also learn the art of CO2 in beers - nearly all of the bottles seem to be gushers of some sort. marcus (1821), Sacramento, California, USA Jul 24, 2009 This dark brown ale poured with a thin tan head and a smoked malt aroma. This is a highly carbonated beer with a sour cherry and oak flavor. bhensonb (4182), Woodland, California, USA Jul 17, 2009 Thought this was Gerwaarde Pater. Pours a ruby brown with a little light head. Fresh fruity aroma - red fruits. Medium body with frothy carbonation. Flavor is lightly tart, suggesting cherry. It’s oaky. Finishes very pleasant. Quite good.
