| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 16, 2009 Am I really the first US rater for this? - this has been sitting on the shelves here in NY for months! - man, we’re falling behind, guys - anyway, I picked this up because the bottle said it was aged in oak - pours a very dark plum color - this smells like a Christmas beer mixed with a small portion of red wine - a lot of nutmeg, cinnamon and ginger sit on top of a tiny bit of oak tannins and musty character - things start out with a little bit of red wine, quickly covered up by dry spices (mostly nutmeg) and some yarrow-ish bitterness - develops a little sugary sweetness late, but red wine tannins return to balance that out - an interesting beer, but I think they overdid the spices.
