750 from Alvinne. Pours dark brown with a big frothy tan head. Unusual spicey aromas. Strong roast malt. Hint of oak. Near full bodied with smoothish carbonation. Flavor of strong spices, dark malt, and light oak touch. (Couldn’t place ginger at the time, but indeed it was present.) Powerful flavors. Spicey, slightly bitter finish. Reminded a bit of juniper. Huge aroma of oak, funk, wine, cinnamon, coriander, and some cardamom as well. Taste is begins with some malty sweetness, but it quickly switches to a mid and finish of dry tannic red wine, oak, and a light sourness. This is just awesome. Thanks Eugene! | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 27, 2009 Bottle shared by nickls. Deep garnet beer. The nose is loaded with sweet spice. A bit of light cinnamon, clove and a touch of sweet chewy malts. Quite a lot of vineous oakiness. Chewy cherry pits along with some light tartness as well. Initially sweet, but that is cut by the oak and a kiss of tartness. A light lingering earthiness that works well with the lighter oaky notes. Not really as much vanilla contribution as is often seen with oak, but there is a bit of tannic quality. MesandSim (5955), London, Greater London, England

Wow, what a smell. Vanilla, oak, sweet fruity notes and red wine grapes. So much wood but of the freshly chopped variety. Some raisins and plums too. Glorious. Almost bourbon dominated flavour but not quite. Amazing wooden barrel notes. Awesome delicate coconut. Buttery bread, chocolate and liquorice. Berry fruits a plenty leading to a clean, slightly sour finish with some lingering coconut and eventual bitterness. Complex, tasty as hell and just utterly excellent all round.
