Fin (3382), Merton, Oxfordshire, England Nov 4, 2009 Had this at the Borefts Beer Festival, De Molen Brewery, Bodegraven, Netherlands 30-10-09 Pours orange/amber with a white head. The alcohol is quite heavy and this is a little sweet. Bit fruity with the wine cask influence a touch muted, I might have got a little woodiness I’m not entirely sure. Pours lightly muddy orange-yellow with a small, creamy, off-white film head. Nice lacings. Aroma has grapes, apple, quite a vinious note and lots of sweet, sticky malts. Medium carbonation, nice fat mouthfeel. Flavour is lightly fruity, oak, dry, light vinious, sweet malts, grapes and apples. Finishes with fine green apple zestiness. altonbrownd (1862), Amsterdam, Netherlands Nov 2, 2009 At BBF. Nice orange body with thick head. Nose of malts and wood. Nice fruity and wood flavoures. Bitter in the finish. Well done. Dedollewaitor (3622), Odense, Denmark Oct 12, 2009 75cl bottle. Thanks Christian Scheffel. Pours cloudy orange with a frothy white head. Sweet malty and oaky nose. A bit of yeast. Overall sweet fruity and oaky flavor. Medium and smooth palate. Tasty but not overly complex as hoped for. faroeviking (6016), Republica Vikingo de las, Faroe Islands Sep 24, 2009 Botella cloudy orange with floaties. Sweet and fruity woody aroma. Sweet fruity woody bit sour flavour with alcohol and some bitterness. Papsoe (14613), Frederiksberg, Denmark Sep 13, 2009 Bottle 75 cl. Courtesy of ChristianScheffel. Hazy amber golden with tiny floating impurities and an off-white head. Sweet yet unclean fruity aroma. Full-bodied, a little low in carbonation, honey, fruit and flower notes. Distinct alcohol in the finish. Not sure that Melchior is all that suited for barrel aging. 220809 skortila (2875), Bunnik, Netherlands Sep 9, 2009 Bottled. Aroma has sugar, some red wine, mustard. Cloudy, yellow coloured beeer with a thin head. The taste is a bit sweet, slightly sour, has fruitiness, some hint of wood, wine, caramel and hops. Bit weird but quite tasty! caesar (3020), Bunnik/Utrecht, Netherlands Sep 6, 2009 Bottle. Cloudy golden color, short head. Aroma is slight sour of mustard, candy sugar, red wine notes, malty. Slight sweet and sourish taste, very strange combination. But I must say the original Melchior was strange but nice, and for this one exactly the same. The barrel aged gives the beer that extra bite and body.
