Malty with light dark fruit and yeast. Taste was the same, which means it really did not taste like a Im stout. Sweet and stick on the palate. Enjoyable never the less. Pours a not quite black, dark brownesque color. A finger width tan and creamy head that looks pretty carbonated. The head coats the surface for quite some time and remains lacy. The aroma is like a Belgian strong with a roasty chocolate. Hints of alcohol, molasses, coffee, chocolate, roasted malts, caramel. Pretty complex assortment of smells. The flavor is just like it smells. Belgian strong taste initially and an alcoholly roast and chocolate finish. Not too bitter and pretty dry. Very creamy and malty as well. A great lingering flavor without the typical bitterness associated with imperial stouts. Slight bubble on the back of the tongue and a solid coating of the mouth. Medium bodied feel. Overall, this is a wonderful beer. Its very complex, but the balance is great. The alcohol is present, but at 10.5% its not overpowering at all. The taste is extremely interesting and a pleasure to drink. It was like mixing a fat american slut with a beautiful belgian blonde resulting in something dirty, wild, and delicious. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 28, 2008 I would never call this beer a stout. Pours a muddy dark brown color with tons and tons of little floaties. Dates, caramel, fig, and a little touch of coffee in the aroma. Caramel and dates dominate the flavoor with just a bit of roasted malt. Really, this one reminds me a lot more of a quad. Lively carbonation. A decent belgian strong. Not a stout. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 26, 2008 Bottled. Quite much black colour, mediumsized brown head. Aroma is roasted malts, some fruits, licorice and also some yeastyness. Flavour is yeast, fruits, roasted malts and some licorice. Also alcohol shows and some quite wooden notes. A lot sweeter than I expected, yet quite wellbalanced and drinkable. goozen (1088), Leiden, Netherlands

Almost black, beige head. Sweet and fruity aroma, slightly brown and sour. Taste has raisins in spades. Too sweet, alas, but it certainly covers the alcohol well. Stouts, in particular imperial ones, shouldn’t be this stickily sweet imho. There are better big beers out there, but I’d not turn down an offer of another one, that’s for sure!
Rerate: 330ml bottle (One Pint Pub, Helsinki) Similar score, Aroma has cheese, glue, alcohol, and a bit of coffee. cmillward (434), Orlando, Florida, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 13, 2008 Bottle. Black with chestnut hints, creamy tan head, rocky leaving nice lacing on the glass. Not your typical imp stout, but wonderful all the same. Huge aroma of chocolate, fruit, bready yeasts, a hint of funk, chocolate covered cherries, dark berries, and candi sugar. On the tongue this delivers a new combination of the aforementioned elements. Its starts with tart berries, slightly acidic, chocolate covered cherries, sugared figs, coffee, caramel, candi sugar, doughy yeasts.
Initially tart and fizzy, then sweet and sugary with coffee and caramel and chocolate, a bitter finish with a touch of alcohol along the way. Despite all the sweetness it ends dry. Full bodied and well balanced carb. I was impressed with the complexity and depth of character. This kept me on my toes and was excellent.
