| 1.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 1/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 4/20 | Jun 2, 2008 (from notes) Main problem with this one- if the rating was for a Quad, it would be marginally better; this brew is stuck in some bad place between wanting to be a stout and being brewed like a Quadruple. QC problems also show up- very overcarbonated, nasty head. Smells of heavy sweets, dark fruits. Flavor is all wrong (for a stout)- raisins, candy sugar, yeasty twang. Very slight chocolate/caramel notes, overpowered by dark fruity sweetness.
Mildy interesting- if it was a take on a Quad. As a "stout"- shit. kramer (2484), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | May 30, 2008 12 oz bottle, via SoLan and TheCheeseMan. Pours a very murky dark brown body with a very fizzy light brown head. Lots and lots of vigorous carbonation. Very odd aroma, lots of heavy yeast, a good bit of chalkiness, light roast, chocolate, alcohol. Very fruity, lots of plums and raisins. Chalky and yeasty flavor with more toasted and chocolate malts than roastiness. This seems more like a Belgian Brown than an Imperial Stout. I really just don’t get this beer. Mouthfeel is way way over carbonated for my tastes, and fairly thin overall. It just foams up as it hits the tongue. Overall, I really just don’t get or like what’s going on here, and I tend to like the more oddball Stouts. jthg (68), Austin, Texas, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | May 28, 2008 3 beers in. The beer pours a dark cloudy amber/brown. Definitely not stout in look.The aroma is filled with malty bitterness. Definitely a stout smell.
The taste is where this beer gets interesting. Sour. It reminds me of a Flemish red. The beers ends with a woody fresh taste.
This is a really interesting brew - overall, good... just don’t expect a stout! gottalottaibu (243), charlotte, North Carolina, USA

Nose is fruity and contains roasted malts and liquorice, too. Some fizziness in full palate. Roasted malts and liquorice in taste. Some fruitiness. Wouldn’t really call this an imperial stout but still nice beer. daniele (1738), Italy

Yeasty and syrupy high alcoholic aroma. Initial taste is raisin fruit and finish offer hints of roasted espresso vyvvy (2068), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 18, 2008 Pours dark brown (far from black though) with a small tan head. The aroma has smooth roasted malt, milk chocolate, caramel, lots of green apple, light spice and cream. Medium / thick smooth body with light carbonation. The taste is very similar to the aroma, but with more of a bitter chocolate note and extra apple. The finish is drier with some hoppiness. This is good, but more apple traits than I care to have in an imperial stout.
