JPDIPSO (4233), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA May 14, 2008 Gusher! Muddy light brown color with a light tan, soft peak egg white looking head. sweet malt with some lactic and spice qualities. Hints of cinnamon and light fruit grow as it sets. Big, thick sheet of lace left on the side of the glass after the first hit. LIght sweet caramel start. Alcohol is quite evident from the start. Quite bubbly in feel. Light lactose and hints of roasted malt weave in and out. Seems more like a foreign stout or perhaps a belgian strong.
ogivlado (2323), Zagreb, Croatia Sep 5, 2008 Bottled(330ml). -Dark brown coloured, small cappuccino head that went away fast, roasted malt and light chocolate nose. The aroma is basicly the same, roasted malt, chocolate and fruits with strong alcohol presence. The flavor is also chocolate, caramel and light fruity. Lots of sediment, light notes of nuts in the finish. MrRain (305), O’Fallon, Illinois, USA Sep 1, 2008 Bottled poured into a tulip glass. APBIS pours brown with a small soapy head. It smells like licorice and prunes. The flavor is heavily licorice and cola. The finish is redeemed a bit with a more pine-like flavor. I’m not too impressed with this beer really. It’s too sweet for me. I suggest one of the other myriad of imperial stouts available. shrubber85 (2500), Wallhalben, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany Aug 30, 2008 Bottle. Chocolate, cola, and malt aroma. Cloudy brown with large head. Very sweet prune malt and strong alcohol flavor with a sour cherry finish. A bit rough. Dark belgian strong ale brown with lots of floaties and a dissipating light tan head is gone almost immediately. The nose is heavy with the candi sugar. The taste is plummy and more candi sugar the roastiness is there but understated along with chocolate and coffee notes that should be at the front of a stout. This beer is fantastic but I can’t help but think it is a Belgian Strong Ale that would be better compared to Rochefort 8/10 than it is an Imperial Stout.
