THOUGHTS: Really nice imperial stout and very Belgian. Hid alcohol very well, until the finish and then it all hits. But alcohol did grow in intensity as it warmed. Still nice though.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a hazy, dark brown with red highlights and a small, off-white head that mostly diminished and left good lacing. There were also small particles in the body of and average to thick density. The aroma was moderate cocoa powder and chocolate syrup; moderate yeast, vanilla, licorice, cola, spices and dark fruit. The initial flavor was sweet, lightly sour and slightly acidic; while the finish was rather sweet and sour with an average duration. There was chocolate syrup, dark fruit, yeast, vanilla and cola. The medium to full body, which was a little thin for the style, was fairly creamy, but also oily with lightly fizzy carbonation and a moderate to heavy alcoholic finish.

Dec 17, 2009 Bottle. Coke-coloured beer with some floats and a huge head leaving lots of traces on the glass. Aroma is a bit roasted, a bit hoppy and with lots of yeast. Quite fruity, typically of a Belgian stout. Taste is balancing between Belgian yeast, a distinct hop profile with some bitterness and a roasted stout-flavour. Really a Belgian stout, a good one.

Dec 13, 2009 Updated: Dec 15, 2009magnificent. plum and pudding no alcohol and a robust and full body. 2 year conditioned bottle the brew is really deep, deep brown and cloudy and full of floaties. no alcohol and perfect holiday taste. the Belgians can really brag about this one. so many tastes.... i get my nan’s rice pudding not really a beer just a buzz and a great memory. thanx alvinne i understand why i should have dropped the $13 at the gingerman nyc.

Dec 11, 2009 Simply put.......one of the worst Wimpy Stouts I have ever had. Aroma is fruity,yeasty and medicinal with no stout qualities what so ever. The flavor is medicinal and fruity like an infected quad. Once again no Wimpy Stout qualities. Ugh this sucks.

Dec 9, 2009 Draft. Ginger Man, NYC. Large, frothy tan head, mostly lasting. Body is deep brown, speckled. the aroma is sweet with notes of caramel, toast, licorice, vanilla, raisin, prune, dustiness and alcohol. the flavor is moderately to heavily sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter leaving a taste of sweet cough medicine. Medium to full body, smooth texture that turns sticky, lively carbonation. I had not idea what style this was and assumed from its looks and flavor that it was a Belgian strong ale. Some good things about this, particularly its dark fruit sweetness combined with the licorice taste. Overall, though, it is on the edge of being cloyingly sweet.

Dec 6, 2009 33 cl bottle, bottled/bbe? Dark brown with a red hue. Huge frothy head stabilising at several millimeter after a while; laces well . Nose pleasantly perfumed with chocolate, vanilla, nut liqueur. Sweet, but not assertively, and moderately spicy. A hint of plum jam and nut oils in the finish. Full bodied. Lasting bitter and spicy aftertaste and alcoholic warmth, the only point when the 10.5% alcohol become apparent.

Nov 23, 2009 Pours a black color with a see through ruby red light, with a nice thick tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, brown surgars, liquorices, dry fruits and spices. Flavors of roasted malts, chocolate, liquorice, brown sugars, vanilla and spices. Good carbonation, sweet and bitter dry finish. Great ballance of flavors with a complex strong taste. I love this stout.

Nov 21, 2009 Black color with a creamy white head. The aroma is roasted malt and caramel. Flavor is also roasted malt and dried fruit. After taste is vinous with a long bitter end.

Nov 15, 2009 dark brown with floaties, gushed out of the bottle, kept foaming out of the bottle even though only 1/4 full. fluffy unorderly offwhite head with floaties.
sweet malty aroma faint hint of roasted grains, smells more like a dobbelbock. also some honey or mild brown sugar in the aroma.
flavor is brown sugar, licorice, alc.burn, very faint roasted stuff, ends quite bitter and still brown sugar sweet. strange brew.
