Alvinne Podge Bourgogne Barrel Oak Aged

Bottle shared by argo0: Pours a hazy dark copper amber with a frothy beige head. Aroma of fresh oaky dark caramel malt with a touch of light fruity esters. Starts with pretty good fullness with some tart oaky complexity and sweet dark caramel maltiness before a toasty drier bittersweet tannic finish. Pretty unique oaky dark brew.

Bottle, 75cl, courtesy of yespr. A deep amber to dark brown beer, topped by a dense, finger-thick beige head leaving lacings. Oak and some sourness on the nose, with roasted, coffee-like scents behind. Maybe this doesn’t sound good, but it was. The flavor too was a bit strange but very nice. A sourish, oaked twist of the coffee and chocolate from the regular Podge beer got company of a bretty touch and a little bitterness. Full-bodied, well-carbonated and smooth mouthfeel. Lasting finish with all things found initially. The sourness is well integrated in the beer and even though I don’t think the barreling adds betterness to the beer, it certainly puts it into another dimesion. 090822

Bottle shared at the DC Local tasting. Opaque, mahogany amber with a cloudy, white head. It does not look like an imperial stout. Aroma is fruity, woody, tart. Flavor is all fruits, apples, pears. Not what I expected.

75cl bottle, The Oak Podge, 9% ABV. Medium tan head atop cola brown body. Aroma is medium sweet, alcohol, oak, some bittersweet chocolate, vinous. Taste is moderately sweet, bittersweet chocolate, sour, yeast, some vinous. Medium-full body, fairly smooth.

Very dark brown with an excellent beige head. Amazing caramel, bourgogne and vanilla on top of the already excellent Podge. The finish is epic. Sweet yet bitter. Absolutely glorious.

750 ml bottle labeled as The Oak Podge at Churchkey in DC. ABV listed as 9%, which makes me think this is a separate beer from the Bourgogne Barrel, but I haven’t tried that one, so can’t say for sure. Poured (by Greg the beer manager) with a massive tan colored head that settled quickly and left nice lacing. Aroma had notes of licorice and caramel candied apples. Taste had emphasis on the malts with a subtle background of wood, dark cherries and figs. Long lasting finish was both dry and mildly bitter. Best beer of the night.

Bottle @ kloneo, thx Noize. Dark brown colour, tan head. Aroma is malty chocolate, bourbon, a bit sour. Flavour is chocolate malts, fruits, a bit sour.

Bottle from boutip. Pours black with a small amount of contrasting white head. Aroma is roasty chocolate, with rich dark fruit in background. Mouthfeel is above average. It is a mild chocolate, overpowering the coffee, with a secondary wine.Very rich and a replacement over supper for wine.
