Commercial Description:
Bitterhed: 80+ IBU

English: With this our special brew, Batch One, we dared to experiment with our devotion to a solid malt profile combined with delicate American aroma hops. Batch One is an American Strong Ale characterized by its vast full body and generous amounts of hops. In the glass the beer has a reddish brown colour with a coppery glow, while the beige coloured head leaves a nice lacing in the glass. In this brew we have chosen to only use the noble Simcoe hop, both for boiling and the following dry hopping. The hops give the beer its fresh citrus like character and leaves a solid bitterness although it is balanced by sweet caramel malt. Amager Batch One is a potent beer which is not afraid to flex its muscles in both the alcohol and in its bitterness.
Bitterness: 80+ IBU

500 ml bottle. Golden amber body with a decent tan head. Aroma is citric hoppy and hay. Flavor is sweet malty, some caramel and a sharp, fruity bitterness with grapefruit. Very well made and in perfect balance. Easy drinkable.

The nose was somewhat boring to me, some powerful malt coming through and a little whiff of citrus. But the taste was actually much better than I expected, loads and loads of caramel malt and a nice hop edge created from the Simcoe. It’s rare that a beer actually tastes anything like it is advertised, but this beer was solid and held very close to what the bottle said it was.

Bottle. Ruddy brown with a rich tan head. Raisins and citrus caramel. Somewhat harsh nuttiness prevents excellence.

Cloudy amber, large long lasting fluffy beige head, excellent lacing. Aroma is of light alcohol, powerful hops, caramel sweetness, soapy, oranges. Flavour is hoppy at first, caramel malt sweetness, alcohol, some spice, light grapefruit. Warming mouthfeel, medium/large body, high carbonation. Finishes long, warming, hoppy.

It’s good but the alcohol makes this a little peppery at times. Sort of goes nowhere.

500ml bottle obtained in a trade with Boutip, thanks Phil.
Opened on February 22, 2009.

Bottle. Muddy orange - brown pour with only a little white head. Aroma is nice caramel malt, with some pit fruit, and citrusy esthers. Flavor is the same, strong malt, both caramel and pit fruit aspects, decent bitterness, similar to american style double ipa or strong ales.

Picked up a single 500ml bottle from Heritage Liquors in Maplewood, MN. Pours a hazy dark reddish amber colored brew with an average sized off-white head that has some nice retention and lacing. Aroma of citrus zest, some raisins, caramel malt, dark pitted fruits and vanilla. Taste is medium to full bodied, nice balanced carbonation with flavors of caramel malt, citrus and floral hops, and some tropical fruit. Finish is semi-sweet, alcohol is well hidden with some mild bitterness that slowly disappears. Almost close to a Barley wine profile with some added hop bitterness.

Bottle. Pours hazy tawny with an average, rocky off-white head, somewhat lasting with good lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (cookie, caramel, nutty), average hop (herbs, grass), heavy yeast (dough, earth, leaves) with notes of plum, date, and brown sugar. Full bodied, creamy texture, lively carbonation, and a bitter finish. Long duration, moderate sweetness, acidity, and bitterness.
