fiulijn (5650), Como; Lausanne (CH); Malmö (SWE), Italy Jul 4, 2008 Black color, with a wonderful creamy head. It has a very nice aroma, of caramel, vanilla, a bit cheesy (tomme). Smooth mouthfeel, medium body strength, aggressive alcohol since the first notes; very good roasted malt and chocolate flavor, well mixed together, with a touch of liquorice, vanilla and tobacco. You will feel the bitterness, extreme, in the long. Just a bit too alcoholic. Wonderful. harrisoni (4754), Ashford, Kent, Kent, England Jul 3, 2008 Bottle at Chris_o birthday bash 08. Black with thin tan head. Hot alcohol, intense, oily mouthfell, soy sauce flavour, which I don’t like. Too oily, soy saucey for me. nwilder (30), Denmark Jun 27, 2008 In the glass the stout rests deep blackish brown with a beige tight head. The nose is a complex union of sweet caramel, toffee, coffee, burnt grain, vanilla, bourbon, and alcohol. Upon tasting, is starts soft, lush, sweet and roasty. Carbonation just high enough to add a mild tingle, and the alcohol some warming. As it lingers, the sweetness is beautifully balanced-out by the roasted elements and a spicy bitterness, finishing with a neat kicker in the end, strongly suggesting anis/licorice. What an impressive beer! madsberg (4360), Bangalore, India Jun 25, 2008 Bottled. Pitch black coloured. Dense light brown head. Sweetness, vanilla, some barrel notes, chocolate, fruits and light alcohol. Nice. Flavour of chocholate, roast, coffee, vanilla, light smoke (whiskey?) and liqourice. Smooth and very balanced. Full bodied. Has a slight bitterness in the end, which otherwise is filled with roast and alcohol. I really dig this. wetherel (883), Carlsbad, California, USA Jun 20, 2008 Tasted at WeeHeavySDs place. Another top50 beer fallen from grace. Looks nice. Black and brown. Nice malty chocolatey aroma. High in flavor. A little dry. Easy to drink. Delicious. I’m tempted to rate it a 4.4, but then I think Tovarish Imperial stout is better and I rated that a 4.2, so I’ll rate this the same.
