Papsoe (9999), Frederiksberg, Denmark Apr 6, 2008 (Bottle 25 cl) Pours completely opaque pitch black with a rich and frothy light brown head - your typical Amager appearance. Aroma of burned malt with an enticing oaky lure. The body is huge and powerful with a shipload of black, burned malts and again these wonderful oaky notes from the Stranahan barrels. The finish is burned and bitter but more subtle than in the other Imperial Stouts from this brewery. Amager beers can sometimes be a little much on the untrained palate with their powerful and aggressive attack from both the black malts and their solid hoppiness, but this is simply a beer of great refinement, balance and finesse. Yum! Keep them coming please. 220308
FrankJohansen (2639), Sabro, Denmark Sep 8, 2008 Bottle. Black colour with a huge beige head. Powerful aroma and taste of roasted malts, coffee, chocolate and whiskey. A bit too many alcoholic notes. Lasting finish. Furseth (1143), Kungälv, Sweden Sep 1, 2008 Bottle: Black colour, with a brown creamy head. Aroma of raisins, malts dark chocolate. Flavor has a nice dark chocolate/coffee mix, with a nice alcy/hopy finish. MEdium body, and a nice medium to long fruity/malty finish. Werry nice edelbrauer (21), Aalborg, Denmark Aug 30, 2008 Bottle bought as a supposebly treat for myself, promising aroma of a decent stout, delicous coffee and acoholic powerful nose. the first impression in the mouth is again coffee, then hot alcohol numbs the mouth and everything vanishes from there. the finish is then just muted, dry, offensiv and disappointing. a little sweet liquirish lingers as an sorry excuse. this beer should have been stored much longer before its release, it just thems unfinished, green and raw. At a better price i would buy another one and cellar it. JMFG (1140), Florida, USA Aug 22, 2008 Sampled @ RBSG, thanks to whoever brought this. Black pour with a sparse off-white head. Rich, aggressive dark roast aroma, light alcohol, tannins, even a light licorice/anise aroma. Smooth taste - alcohol rides nicely on the roast and barrel flavors, but was a bit too apparent at times. Still a nice brew overall. sunevdj (1386), Copenhagen, Denmark Aug 22, 2008 Pours an opaque black with a smallish beige head. Quite bitter with strong aromas og whiskey and wood. Also some alcohol and hints of ash and smoke. Medium carbonation. Full bodied with a somewhat sticky mouthfeel. Very bitter finish with strong aromas of dark chocolate, some alcohol and hints of English liquirish... The bottle’s too small.
