Black with small head. The aroma is more of whisky than of wood. Same with the flavor.

Bottle - thanks to Jeppe fro bringing this over to Belgium
Deep black body. Creamy, lightly brown head. Strong malty aroma of liquorice, some coffee, grapes, smoke, alcohol. Quite nice and well balanced. Moderately sweet, heavily bitter flavour. Bitterness seems quite hoppy, which is somehow odd for an imperial stout. Overall it is quite enjoyable but not really great.

Aroma: very nice powerful aroma of dark malt, fruity molasses, dough, oak, pear, vanilla and spirits. Hints of lilac, coconut, walnuts and espresso.
Flavour: very full-bodied, nuts, roasted peanuts, distilled barley. Powerful oak presence. Vaguely rosy. Incredible balance between hoppy and heavily roasted bitterness and noble sweetness of fortified wine and dried fruit. Warming finish. The bitterness lingers with cinnamon, pear and lingonberry. Great!
Appearance: Murky brown black body with a sticky looking irregular foam. Heavy lacing.
Palate: Terribly good, silken, oily, smooth, creamy. It’s got it all! Heavily vinous with modest carbonation. This reminds me of North Coast Old Stock Ale – but it’s way better!

RBESG Sheffield 2009 Grand Tasting at the Harlequin. Black colour, thin brown head. Aroma is sweet, roasted malts, coffee, whiskey. Flavour is sweet, chocolate, coffee, caramel, earthy, light earthy bitter finish. I miss the strong peaty/roasted notes that some of their other Impy’s have. And I’ve come to the conclusion that I don’t dig barrel aging. I like (Imperial) stouts rough and fresh, with more aggressive flavours. Still, this is good stuff.

Bottle. Black pour. Small brown head. Aroma is very roasty and has quite a bit of chocolate, espresso and some barrel notes. Flavor is very toasty but it mellowed out by the barrel. I get some bourbon, chocolate, espresso and hints of vanilla. Good beer. Very glad to get to try it.

Black/dark brown. A few tan bubbles. Great nose- vanilla oak, smokey char, roasty bittersweet, savory notes. Same flavor but a bit thin on the palate. Great nose, great flavor.
