Commercial Description:
Bitterhed: 81 IBU

English: When poured into the glass you will instantly sense that Hr. Frederiksen is a gentleman with both potency and a huge personality. Dark as Hr. Frederiksen’s humour, this imperial stout is inspired by the American imperial stouts with its dense and creamy light brown head that leaves nice lacings in the glass while the head reluctantly dissipates. We are willing to admit that we went crazy with the malts in this beer. A massive 8 different types of malts were used, and it is the dark and heavily roasted ones that give the beer its colour and almost extreme full body - this is almost a meal in a bottle. The bitterness is also delivered by the heavily roasted malts backed up by the American Centennial hops. Oh yes, Hr. Frederiksen is an experience which should be enjoyed slowly, but in return he will last all night warming you with his alcohol and challenging charm.
We have named this beer after a good friend, without whom, Amager Bryghus would not be what it is today.

No. 300 - "Big Beer". Near black color with a very tall, shiny, tiny tan bubbled head. Very lasting head. Dark chocolate, mild licorice, roasted malt, dark candi, viennese coffee all come together for a very pleasant aroma. Fairly light, but smooth and rich in feel. Initial fairly sharp flavors with anise, and grapefruit zest. Dark chocolate, dark malt and coffee are there but don’t grandstand. Lightly acidic black malt i the finish and linger. Alcohol is not to be found, or perhaps there is a bit of ouzo to this one. Quite dry in the finish and linger. A touch of charred malt wanders lonely about. It doesn’t seem to hold my attention all the way to the end, but a nice stout nonetheless.

Huge dark fruit, dark chocolate beer with surprisingly little roasted character. Wish I had taken better notes

Tap.black/brown colour with small dense tan-coloured head. The aroma is roasty coffee, slight chocolate. Flavour coffee and liquorice with sweet-bitter aftertaste.

Pitch black, brown head, nice legs on this one when you swirl it around. Or lacework or what you prefer to call it, this is the male version of the beer anyway. Not that men and lace go well together. Not that I would know. Floral hops hit me first, then roasted malt, liquorice, chocolate, coffee. The taste has the same elements but the underlying sweetness and alcohol are more dominant. Long aftertaste, nicely full bodied. Good one.

Bottle. Opaque brown/black pour with just a little brown around the edges - fine tan head. Big roasty and caramely aroma. Hops, cocoa, almonds, toffee, coffee. Almost like a barley wine with lots of smoke and roastiness. Probably one of the more floral smelling imperial stouts I’ve, and that’s a good thing here. Well integrated alcohol and some woody notes as well. Flavor is less exciting and complex, and more standard, I suppose. Smoky and lots of bitter almonds and coffee. Tannic bitter finish.

Bottle (500ml). Shared with blankboy and garthicus, my bottle via trade with glouglouburp. Batch 115 best before 2017. Opaque Black pour, large lasting frothy light brown head. Great aroma - dry deep roast, coffee, cocoa, nutmeats, leafy herbal bitterness, a hint of fruit, no alcohol at all in the nose - balanced, smooth, lush. The taste - follows, but the alcohol and bitterness are ramped up - still fairly balanced and incredibly drinkable ... damn I could get seriously shitfaced drinking this on tap! Silky mouthfeel, solid body, long roasty malt/bitter finish. A stunningly good imperial stout. Damn - thanks, Dany!!!

Thanks to HogTownHarry, shared with Blankboy and I. Batch number 115. Appearance: Pitch black, large brown head. Aroma: Lovely bitter-chocolate-cream-espresso aroma, peat and smoke too, lovely, very ’comforting’ if that makes sense?? Flavour: Hoppy, nice and bitter, chocolate, very very smooth, roasty, coffee, alcohol is present and quite warming, just a superb brew.
