Commercial Description:
Bitterhed: 81 IBU

English: When poured into the glass you will instantly sense that Hr. Frederiksen is a gentleman with both potency and a huge personality. Dark as Hr. Frederiksen’s humour, this imperial stout is inspired by the American imperial stouts with its dense and creamy light brown head that leaves nice lacings in the glass while the head reluctantly dissipates. We are willing to admit that we went crazy with the malts in this beer. A massive 8 different types of malts were used, and it is the dark and heavily roasted ones that give the beer its colour and almost extreme full body - this is almost a meal in a bottle. The bitterness is also delivered by the heavily roasted malts backed up by the American Centennial hops. Oh yes, Hr. Frederiksen is an experience which should be enjoyed slowly, but in return he will last all night warming you with his alcohol and challenging charm.
We have named this beer after a good friend, without whom, Amager Bryghus would not be what it is today.
Bitterness: 81 IBU

(on bottle) A very impressing black beer with a wonderfull light beige head. The aroma is very hopped, haven´t tasted a stout with such a greeninish and herby hopnose for a while. The alcohol and malts kicks in in the taste, but there´s an allmost toothpaste-like feel to the whole thing all the way. Finishes nicely dry and with a ton of coffee, ´the carbonation is gone at this point and it´s needed to carry such a massive finish.

Intensely black body with a cocoa colored firm head. Nose of milky cocoa butter and creamy espresso, some oily coffee bean resins and some greenish cream and butter notes... quite a nice smell, coffee isn’t overpowering or really that strong, most dominant is the cream/cocoa that I’ve mentioned twice already. Frothy bit up front, then ashen and rough on the middle of the tongue and against the palate, finishing unnecessarily bitter and parched. Chocolate syrup, cocoa, mild to moderate coffee... over time and when warmed it’s overtaken by a chalky aspirin flavor that pretty much ruins the rest of the drink.

bottle thanks to papsoe. Shared at February Beer Advocate stout tasting. Pours dark with a brown head. Nose is of licorice, oak and burnt malts. Taste is of licorice and oak. Mouthfeel is medium and dry, but not overly so. This was complex. Really tasty and very nice mouthfeel.

Bottle. Poured dark brown with a big tan head and lots of heavy lace, beautiful. Aroma of heavy malt, bitter burnt notes, sweet notes, and coffee. Taste is very malty, with more bitter notes, plenty of hops, and while the label said 81 IBUS, I wasn’t really ready for the heavy hop notes. Very interesting. Mouth is full, nicely carbonated. Finish is very bitter. Overall, an interesting imperial stout, with lots of bitterness and heavy malt.

Ample carbonation creates a large creamy tan foam over a black body. As the foam recedes, it laces the glass thickly. There is a burned note running through the wall of malt in this one, but it melds nicely with the other dark malt flavors and surprising hop presence. The hops are a little resinous, but meld well with the malts. This is a really good imperial stout.

An opaque black pour, a brown head that fades to a ring around the edge. Roasted malt, coffee with a good amount of dark chocolate in the aroma. Tastes of burnt malt, coffee and anise. Hints of chocolate increase slightly as it warms. Not quite creamy mouthfeel. Just not quite a 4.5 in the taste department because it was a bit hot and a bit too bitter. Drinks quite well, as it is not overly heavy, like many from this region of the world. I think this would mellow out into an excellent RIS, but for the money I probably won’t buy another one to age and find out. This will have to just remain a very good imperial for me.
