Commercial Description:
Bitterhed: 81 IBU

English: When poured into the glass you will instantly sense that Hr. Frederiksen is a gentleman with both potency and a huge personality. Dark as Hr. Frederiksen’s humour, this imperial stout is inspired by the American imperial stouts with its dense and creamy light brown head that leaves nice lacings in the glass while the head reluctantly dissipates. We are willing to admit that we went crazy with the malts in this beer. A massive 8 different types of malts were used, and it is the dark and heavily roasted ones that give the beer its colour and almost extreme full body - this is almost a meal in a bottle. The bitterness is also delivered by the heavily roasted malts backed up by the American Centennial hops. Oh yes, Hr. Frederiksen is an experience which should be enjoyed slowly, but in return he will last all night warming you with his alcohol and challenging charm.
We have named this beer after a good friend, without whom, Amager Bryghus would not be what it is today.
Bitterness: 81 IBU

Bottle shared by Paul. Very rich coffee aroma, sweet with maple syrup, brine. Flavor has a ton of syrups, salts, coffee, big and brash with a medium-large body. Astringent and body, really a bit too much. Perhaps this could age. Thanks Paul for sharing the bottle.

500ml Bottle: Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, light coffee, slight tar, cocoa, as well as hints of smoke and hops. Poured pitch black in color with a small, dense, creamy, tan/brown head that mainly diminished but left a nice film on top throughout. Opaque. Sparkling. Small lacing. Flavor is lightly sweet, light to medium bitter, and very complex. Tastes of roasted malts, burnt malts, chocolate, tar, tobacco, piney hops, citrus hops, slight charcoal, light vanilla, and light cream. Medium to full body. Smooth, chalky texture is thinner than expected. Average carbonation. Burnt malt, charcoal, tar, chocolate, and tobacco finish is lightly dry and chalky. 10.5%ABV is completely hidden.

Bottle. Poured a deep black body with nice head. Aroma is a nice blend of milk choclate, hops, molasses and burnt bacon. Flavor is very creamy, milk choclate, grassy hops and a very light touch of coffee. Alcohol was not detected nor tasted but overall this was very thin considering its reputed character.

Bottle 22 / 400, Batch 5, Best By Date March 2010; Sampled 2nd RB Tucson Tasting, September 2008
Pours with a darkish, brown colored head that sits on top of a simply, opaque, black beer. There is lots of roast malt character in the aroma with notes of dark cocoa, darkly roasted coffee beans, and a finish that almost has a smoky note to it with its concentrated malt aromas. There is a touch of earthiness to the nose as well as some light notes similar to burnt, dried figs.

This is lightly sweet tasting at first, which accentuates some dark cocoa notes, but a substantial roast character quickly kicks in and counters the sweetness with ample coffee notes and a very deep, roast bitterness that dominates the finish. The roast character accentuates quite a bit of charcoal-like acidity and some harsh, acrid notes. Alcohol definitely adds to the harshness in the finish as well. This is a bit more enjoyable than I may be making out to be, but it can be quite harsh in the finish at time; ultimately the roast character seems to be a bit more than the base malt character can support (but that is probably just me).
