Commercial Description:
Bitterhed: 81 IBU

English: When poured into the glass you will instantly sense that Hr. Frederiksen is a gentleman with both potency and a huge personality. Dark as Hr. Frederiksen’s humour, this imperial stout is inspired by the American imperial stouts with its dense and creamy light brown head that leaves nice lacings in the glass while the head reluctantly dissipates. We are willing to admit that we went crazy with the malts in this beer. A massive 8 different types of malts were used, and it is the dark and heavily roasted ones that give the beer its colour and almost extreme full body - this is almost a meal in a bottle. The bitterness is also delivered by the heavily roasted malts backed up by the American Centennial hops. Oh yes, Hr. Frederiksen is an experience which should be enjoyed slowly, but in return he will last all night warming you with his alcohol and challenging charm.
We have named this beer after a good friend, without whom, Amager Bryghus would not be what it is today.

Logan’s pre-GABF 2007 party. Head is mostly diminishing. Body is black. Aroma is moderately malty (roasted/burnt grain, chocolate), lightly to moderately hoppy (resin), lightly yeasty (dough), with notes of cardboard, alcohol, wood. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Medium to full body, velvety/creamy texture, lively carbonation, lightly to moderately alcoholic. Pretty disappointing...excessively roasted, poor choice/use of hops for the style, and my old nemesis, oxidation.

50 cl bottle, Batch 05. My 600th rating. Pours an impenetrable ebony with a coating, crema head. Nose of dark chocolate and coffee with a grapey sweetness. Silky mouthfeel with light carb tang. Milk chocolate, French roast and vanilla fade into grapefruit and lime peel. Lingering touches of pith and licorice. A big stout that never seems overdone. Sweet bitter balance and transition is perfect. Exceptional.

Pours a deep dark Brown / oily black with a towering dual layered mocha head. Aquired in trade with Maria! Many thanks! Wow, this smells great! Roasted malts, coffe and acrid hops float along with the yeasty head. Drool...Drool. Coffe tones dominate body. Body is Medium and thightly packaged. Head is rocky. Lacing looks like snowcovered steps. A pleasant lasing bitter finish. This is probably magic on draft.

Bottle. Ratebeer Christmas in Oshawa, December 2007. Black body with a good foamy khaki head. (4+) Strong alcohol presences in the aroma, with roast malt as the secondary dominant characteristic. Flavour has similarly alcohol profile that leaves the mouth tingly before you can properly address the underlying roast malt character. Very light chocolate struggles to gain recognition for its contribution. Smooth medium to full bodied palate. A very nice imperial stout that ultimately opts to mute its finer moments in favour of brash alcoholic bluster.<P>"...but you know us, we’re suckers for stouts." - Beerhugger

Xmas in Oshawa. Thanks! Batch 05, bottle 51. Black milkshake thick head. Nose is giant chocolate, caramel, toffee, huge roast, alcohol. Flavor is coffee, roast, burnt malt, big alcohol presence, some milk. Too much alcohol and a bit too bitter in the finish.

Aroma is slightly alcoholic and woody with a strange ester profile. Taste profile is sweet dark malt with touches of fruits from the esters. This is really strange. Actually, it is very European in the ester profile but jacked up in the creamy dense body more like a top imperial stout from the US. Finishes bitter and chocolate with a hop astringency. Nice.

Thanks to the Minnesota crew and to jespr for bringing this the States last summer. Enjoyed in the back room at the Cellars. As I like to say: this beer is like Oprah Winfrey: Thick, Dark and Rich. This really was a thick chewy beer. It was almost like taking a chocolate and letting it melt in a double pan and tossing in a few espresso beans and letting it melt down into a thick sauce and pouring it directly into a demi-tasse cup and sipping it. Just absolute heaven.

Been looking forward to this one for quite some time, and chose to enjoy it as the first beer that evening to feel and taste its full potential. Appearance is a definate 5, poored the pitch black liquid into a relativly big glass resulting in an absolutly enormous head. As the head diminished (something that happened extremly slow) it left a hilly landscape on top of the black beer. Intense aroma that i find it hard to describe well enough to justify. Tons of different roasted malty notes, along with american hobs making this one a true sniffer. The first zip almost hurt my chin mussels, chocking the tastebuds. Very intense bitterness brough by both hobs and roasted malt, salty and sticky. Glad i bought a few of these so i’ll be able to taste again.
