Commercial Description:
Bitterhed: 81 IBU

English: When poured into the glass you will instantly sense that Hr. Frederiksen is a gentleman with both potency and a huge personality. Dark as Hr. Frederiksen’s humour, this imperial stout is inspired by the American imperial stouts with its dense and creamy light brown head that leaves nice lacings in the glass while the head reluctantly dissipates. We are willing to admit that we went crazy with the malts in this beer. A massive 8 different types of malts were used, and it is the dark and heavily roasted ones that give the beer its colour and almost extreme full body - this is almost a meal in a bottle. The bitterness is also delivered by the heavily roasted malts backed up by the American Centennial hops. Oh yes, Hr. Frederiksen is an experience which should be enjoyed slowly, but in return he will last all night warming you with his alcohol and challenging charm.
We have named this beer after a good friend, without whom, Amager Bryghus would not be what it is today.

Aroma is slightly alcoholic and woody with a strange ester profile. Taste profile is sweet dark malt with touches of fruits from the esters. This is really strange. Actually, it is very European in the ester profile but jacked up in the creamy dense body more like a top imperial stout from the US. Finishes bitter and chocolate with a hop astringency. Nice.

Thanks to the Minnesota crew and to jespr for bringing this the States last summer. Enjoyed in the back room at the Cellars. As I like to say: this beer is like Oprah Winfrey: Thick, Dark and Rich. This really was a thick chewy beer. It was almost like taking a chocolate and letting it melt in a double pan and tossing in a few espresso beans and letting it melt down into a thick sauce and pouring it directly into a demi-tasse cup and sipping it. Just absolute heaven.

Been looking forward to this one for quite some time, and chose to enjoy it as the first beer that evening to feel and taste its full potential. Appearance is a definate 5, poored the pitch black liquid into a relativly big glass resulting in an absolutly enormous head. As the head diminished (something that happened extremly slow) it left a hilly landscape on top of the black beer. Intense aroma that i find it hard to describe well enough to justify. Tons of different roasted malty notes, along with american hobs making this one a true sniffer. The first zip almost hurt my chin mussels, chocking the tastebuds. Very intense bitterness brough by both hobs and roasted malt, salty and sticky. Glad i bought a few of these so i’ll be able to taste again.

Very similar in appearance to the Pink Elephant IS we sampled just prior. Chocolate and coffee nose, powerful, burnt roast, with an underlying sweetness. Much dry in the mouth than I expected; some chocolate, strong coffee, some heat. Shows a bunch of class and tastes very young. Ta Voota.

The archetypal clean American-style imperial stout. Bucketloads of beautifully-balanced chocolate, coffee and toast with a blast of piney, minty hops in the finish. Very straight-forward but beautiful intensity of flavour and it never puts a foot wrong (though it makes it hard to write much about it!) Just like Speedway actually. Really tasty stuff, and a very interesting contrast with the Pink Elephant immediately before it. Onya voota!

Comments: Sharp, heavy, hoppy and balanced imperial stout in the American mold. A new brewery to watch in a country where new breweries are hard to keep track of!

Shared with WeeHeavySD Batch 5 #212/400. Via trade with Marsiblursi. Dense black beer with the most intense aroma ever, tied with Barley John’s Dark Night returns. Huge amounts of roasted malt and Coffee. the flavorr is very burnt and bitter. A hint of carmel flavor, but no sweetness in this beer Thick and chewey. I wish I could just sniff this forever.
