Commercial Description:

English: Sundby Stout is a classic ”Stout” and yet it dares to be different and challenging. As soon as the beer is opened and you smell it, you sense that this stout smells differently than what you would expect. Late in the brewing process we have added the noble, American dried hops such as Nugget, Centennial, and Cascade, which provide flower-like notes that lay on top of the typical stout characteristics of burned malt that adds lightness and freshness to the beer. Sundby Stout appears dark as the night, while the head is dense, light brown – almost cappuccino-like creamy, as your tongue sense both malt sweetness and hints of bitter, dark chocolate and English liquorice. The sweetness, however, is rightfully challenged from the hard roasted malt and the split, un-malted and roasted barley, which both contribute to the “burned” touch of our stout.

Bottle. Pours dark brown with a small, frothy, off-white head, somewhat diminishing with spare lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (toasted bread, biscuit, cookie, cereal), light hop (herbs), average yeast (leather, musty) with notes of plum and date. Medium bodied, thin texture, average carbonation, and a metallic finish. Average duration, light sweetness, moderate acidity and bitterness.

This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a medium sized head of foamy with a frothy top light brown colored bubbles that were mostly lasting and left behind a semi-opaque softly carbonated dark ruby red brown colored body and a thick foamy lacing. The mild aroma was malty. The mouth feel was tingly at the start with a mellow finish with a mellow hoppy aftertaste. The flavor contained notes of mild hops roasted malt and dark malt. A decent one that I would consider buying again.
