Commercial Description:

English: Sundby Stout is a classic ”Stout” and yet it dares to be different and challenging. As soon as the beer is opened and you smell it, you sense that this stout smells differently than what you would expect. Late in the brewing process we have added the noble, American dried hops such as Nugget, Centennial, and Cascade, which provide flower-like notes that lay on top of the typical stout characteristics of burned malt that adds lightness and freshness to the beer. Sundby Stout appears dark as the night, while the head is dense, light brown – almost cappuccino-like creamy, as your tongue sense both malt sweetness and hints of bitter, dark chocolate and English liquorice. The sweetness, however, is rightfully challenged from the hard roasted malt and the split, un-malted and roasted barley, which both contribute to the “burned” touch of our stout.

This was an American stout, black with a tan head. It didn’t pour with a big head, but it was quite bubbly, you could hear the bubbles whn you drank it, and the head lasted quite a long time. The taste was bitter with hints of chocolate and lemon (perhaps due to the Cascade hops), and a slightly bitter aftertaste; in a word, burnt. Just average for a stout.

500ml bottle (Pikkulintu, Helsinki)
Jet black, with a creamy beige head which settles to something just fizzy. Soft sweet subtle coffee aroma. Dry burnt taste, some coffee, and a bit oily. Slight fizz to the palate spoils it a little - needs swirling. No trace of alcohol at all. Finish is the dry burnt grains again, but they’re a bit too burnt.

Bottle 50 cl. . The nose is light with notes of hops, dried fruites and roasted coffeé. The taste is sweet and bitter with a smooth and creamy palate. The brown head quickly disappear but the hoppy bitterness combined with tha taste of laquorice stays with you for a long time. A fairly good stout.
