Bought at the pretty expensive price of 6$ before taxes for a 330 ml. bottle at the Dépanneur Grand-Duc in Longueuil, Québec. Somewhat dark amber beer that is definitely not limpid. Fantastic nose of spices (pepper) and tree fruits (apples, peaches, citrus). Not like anything else I tasted, complex with apparently a little of dozens of flavors among which seem to stand out peaches, apples, citrus, orange and a truckload of spices, one of the most pepperish beers I've had. Alcohol appears toward the end of this bottled dream trip to Belgium. A remarkable surprise. I am sad, they didnt have any more bottles last time I went to that shop.

Orange/brown colour with particulates. generous, frothy off-white head. Sourish aroma, with cherries, cheese and yeast. Flavour has bread and syrup, sugar, spices, pepper and a sour and sweet finish. Very nice Belgian Ale.

One of the weirdest nose.Huge aromas of fennel (some prefer to say licorice),rosemary and herbs.Nice thick head with good retention.Soft and creamy mouthfeel with some notes of cloves, orange, and licorice.A pleasant surprise although a bit pricy at 7$ but worth every penny.I can see this beer doing marvels with a good piece of tender red meat.

Thank You extended to RastaCouere for sending this one… Dave Rocks!

Pale dusty brown body and a towering and rich cream colored head. Aroma is rather tart and venous, really reminds me of a Flemish Sour. Abundant notes of: wheat, tart cherries, green apples, and a touch of blue cheese. The flavor brings hints of sour dough bread and extra green apple, along with some tart suggestions of green grapes and a nodule of black pepper corn. This reminds me of a VERY-VERY subdued version of a bottle of Cantillon Vigneronne I once had… Ambrel is slightly barnyard - horse blanket but very enjoyable… very pleasant… and the bottle certinaly has some age on it ….. BEST BEFORE: October 2002… HAHA, but I like it in May 2004!!!

Ambrel is pale brown, honey coloured belgian beer that is naturally cloudy from the lees. It has low carbonation levels for the style and therefore not a particularly impressive head, although the retention is quite good. It's nose is composed of subdued belgian fruitiness, caramel malts and alcohol. For a belgian beer, it has a relatively high hop bitterness. It has a nice belgian complex flavour with notes of raisin and caramel coming through.

Dark coppery color, medium yellow head. Chocolate, sweetness, mild alcohol and licorice in aroma. Medium bodied. Chocolate, toffee and mild coffee in flavor, also mild spices. Aftertaste lasts with mild alcohol and spices. Nice complex brew.

Bottled (by Duwac, BBE 09/04...), bought from BelgianShop.com in Jan 2008. Hazy brown colour with big beige fluffy head. Leaves some lace. Aroma is yeast, raisins, some toffee and some notes of mild oxidation (probably due to being this old). Flavour is caramel malts, toffee, yeast and some mild dark dry fruits. No notes of oxidation in the flavour. Dry palate.
