festival of barrel aged beers 2004. bourbon (but slightly sweet) aroma, nice thick gold color, and a nice bourbon flavor, however, a fruity sweetens crept in to lessen my enjoyment of this otherwise remarkable brew. this is a heavy, complex brew, not a session brew.

Experimental wood cask-conditioned fest: Great bourbon aroma and flavor, but suggested, not shouted. Really unusual and enjoyable, but I can’t seem to find one anywhere.

Why I’ve only seen their pils bottled when they have gems like this at America’s BrewPub is beyond me. This baby pours out like golden syrup, only with the wisp of a white head. The aroma is heavily of bourbon, but there’s plenty of sweet malts creeping through as well. The drink is thick, almost chewy. It’s full of burning sweet malt flavor, some smokiness, some light fruitiness, and an adventurous amount of hops to balance the drink out. Very warm alcoholic finish. Good stuff.

FOBAB’04: Golden brown with a sweet bourbony nose, hints of chocolate. Sweet and rich, alcohol is masked well, chewy malts were positively affected by the sweet oak, some bitterness at the finsih. Very good showing from an often forggotten gem in the Chicago suburbs.

FOBAB 2004: Grape flavored. Lots of wine textures and appeals: fruit, dry, cherry, pie. Lots of thick alcohol gobbed in here. One of the better barrel aged barleywines at the fest.
