This baby pours out like golden syrup, only with the wisp of a white head. The aroma is heavily of bourbon, but there’s plenty of sweet malts creeping through as well. The drink is thick, almost chewy. It’s full of burning sweet malt flavor, some smokiness, some light fruitiness, and an adventurous amount of hops to balance the drink out. Very warm alcoholic finish. Good stuff.

Sweet and rich, alcohol is masked well, chewy malts were positively affected by the sweet oak, some bitterness at the finsih. Very good showing from an often forggotten gem in the Chicago suburbs. Really unusual and enjoyable, but I can’t seem to find one anywhere. Crosling (1856), Loveland, Colorado, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Oct 24, 2008 Dark amber colored ale. Decadent, dessert-like nose with terrific aromas of toffee, bourbon, caramel and wood. Flavor is very complex and well balanced between the malt and barrel attributes. I really like sweet, strong barrel aged barley wines and this is a standout example. ElGaucho (1730), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 30, 2008 Draft at brewpub. Diacetyl-butter all the way in the nose. Dark red body with an off-white head that is almost white. Pretty. Beautiful lace. Not much diacetyl in the flavor; just limited to the aroma. Quite good; just a little off in the finish. A few tweaks and this brew could be stellar. drowland (1436), Tallahassee, Florida, USA
