While hunting around Colorado for a landing spot, we discovered Amicas in Salida Colorado. It was part of our decision to move to the area. And the IPA is one of their best. My taste buds detected a nice rye flavor (reminding me of one of my other favorites, Terrapin Rye PA). It has a wonderful hop aroma typical of a good west coast IPA. We’ll definitely be back many times to enjoy this beer.

(on tap at the brewery). Pours a cloudy copper color. Medium white head. Hoppy citrus aroma. Strong hop flavor. Good lacing. Long duration. Slick texture. Slightly astringent finish. Moderate carbonation.

Draft at brewpub. Nice balance. Comfortably bitter. Yet nothing to make you sit up and take notice — either good or bad. Clear amber with small, but frothy head. The aroma presented grapefruit, flowers and some resin. Hint of caramel and grain. The flavor was moderately bitter and lightly to moderately sweet. The finish was lightly to moderately bitter. Standard carbonation for an IPA. Medium body with a watery texture at first that turned sticky. Dry, bitter finish. Nice job, Amicas.

This is the flagship of Amicas brews. Nice balance, good hops, reasonable malt. But, it is best after a bit of aging, and sometimes is released a little bit before its time. Every thing improves with time.

GABF 2007: Poured a clear gold with an off-white head. Fresh hoppy aroma. Piny. Very fresh dry hop notes. Some malt but the big pine in the middle of the flavor. Dry finish.

Draught. Pours clear amber with a small, frothy, white head, lasting with good lacing. Aroma is average malt (grain), heavy hops (perfume, grapefruit, pine), average yeast (sweat) with notes of pear and peach. Medium bodied, sticky texture, average carbonation, and a bitter finish. Long duration, light sweetness, heavy acidity, and harsh bitterness.

Draft pint at the brewpub, 9/14/06: Nice amber color with a shiny sheen. Not much aroma, but it delivers a nice wood-chippy hoppiness. Quite delicious.
