Some earthy bitterness and roast on the finish along with some residual sweetness as well. Hops are earthy and the finish is long and dry. BlackDonald (1127), Boise, Idaho, USA

Nose is full of dark fruits, a bit of candy sweetness, and the roasted maltiness that will soon envelop your palate. Lots of dark plums and raisins notes, some brown sugar and roasted coffee and caramel. Some spice and hops coming through in the finish. Absolutely lovely! cathcacr (592), Portland, Oregon, USA

The flavor and palate came across as somewhat watery and weak; an attempt to be an interesting beer but I just wasn’t getting it. raphael (420), Portland, Oregon, USA

Nose of sweet malty, chewy grains and gritty loveliness. Sweet raisiny fruits and plummy favorability. This is becoming a Portland classic. My sleigh was fully jerked. Citric chewy nutty and biting hops in the finish. Very nutty and winterific. Keep this beer in mind if you decide to explore Portland’s beer scene in the winter. harlequinn (2745), Tacoma, Washington, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 10, 2006 Pours quite dark and was served way too cold, so I waited a few minutes and came back to it and it really opened up nicely. This has alot of dark fruit flavor, and the spices from the fruits are really showcased. Lots of chocolate and a roasted nuttiness rounds out the flavor profile. ¾ (5006), Boulder, Colorado, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 3, 2005 Batch 2 - 7.2% ABV, down from 8% in batch 1. Dark brown and black color, small medium tan head. Roasty plums, spices, bitter, spicy, creamy... all those things.. it really resembles Anchor OSA 2004, but the brewer said no spices were used... only malt and hops... so the flavors of brown sugar, juniper, belgian yeast and cranberries are all derived from the chocolate malts, cascade and chinook hops? Weird.
