gristman (4), USA does not count Mar 31, 2005 Seems other like the girth of this beer! Well....That’s it’s largest downfall. Either that or it needs to be renamed for style. This is an Imperial Porter (at least in flavor). If not, then it’s an overblown Porter. In regard to taste, it’s great, but not to style. Huge chocolate and roasted malt aromas with hints of cocoa and malted milk. Enormous body, almost lactose (milky) in viscosity. Big waves of chocolate, roast and some expresso mocha latte rittles through the palate. Hops are merely along for a ride. The finish is chewy and fleshy with hints of chocolate milk and roasted coffe beans. Quality beer, but not as a Porter alone. Sham (1846), Seattle, Washington, USA Mar 10, 2005 Dark brown with a tan head and decent lace. Cocoa and coffee aromas with some bitter mocha. Bitter and fruity flavors with some soy and cocoa. Roasted malts and some diacetyl. Milky bitter finish with a creamy palate of cocoa.

Near black. Very chocolatey character with light roast notes. Straightforward coffee/toast palate. Slightly oily. Hints of sweaty yeast notes. Off-dry finish. BückDich (4491), Boise, Idaho, USA Mar 9, 2005 Sampled draught at Amnesia Brewing, Portland Black, light head. Nose of rich malts, roasty coffee & nutty chocolate. The flavor is lightly astringent with some musky malts & creamy chocolate. Lightly sweet but a little too much black patent. acrdz (4129), Pennsylvania, USA Jan 3, 2005 Dark brown/black color, only a small amount of light at the bottom of the glass. Big creamy brown head. Nice, robust chocolate malty and dry flavor, a little bitter and pasty on the tongue and in the finish. Good flavor overall... seems thick and robust, smoky and roasty.
