Commercial Description:
Keg and bottle: Filtered.
First brewed in 2005.
Ingredients: Finest barley malts, wheat malts, and fresh whole hops.
Bock beer, released in celebration of the arrival of spring, is an ancient and mysterious part of the brewing tradition. Over time, the term "bock" has come to mean a beer darker and stronger than the brewery’s regular brew. This is the first time we have brewed a bock at Anchor Brewing Co., and we hope you will find it to be a rich and flavorful addition to our offerings. San Francisco’s Anchor Bock Beer is virtually handmade by the brewers of Anchor Steam® Beer, in one of the most traditional small breweries in the world.

12oz bottle served in an english pint. Molasses, chocolate, mild dark fruits, cream, and earthy hops in the aroma. Dark red/bronze color with a mocha head. Flavor is rich malt, cocoa, molasses, cream, mild smoke and mild wood followed by mild roast, cream and earthy hops in the finish. Nice mouthfeel, seems substantial, but still easy to drink. Well done Anchor!

12 oz. bottle. Pours a clear deep brown with a medium sized fizzy white head with decent retention. The aroma is roasted malts with a hint of hops and dark fruits. The flavor is again roasted malts with sweet molassess and some light fruitiness. This had some porter qualities to it. Medium bodied. Very drinkable.

(Rating #1169)

Near black body, creamy light brown head; Very sweet chocolate malty, pine hoppy nose with a little smoke; A bit thin soft licorice bitter body, very soft big carbonation; Long licorice bitter a bit sharp thin finish, very soft carbonation. Extremely strange in a bad way.

Aroma of some roasted malt, some molasses, and some coffee. I thought it smelt like a porter. Pours dark brown with a nice velvetty beige head. Flavor is some subtle molasses, chocolate, a little mocha, nice and roasty. It finishes a little sweet with some mild hints of clean hops. Very drinkable.

Rather rootbeer-y aroma. Rich, yet still light flavor with hints of molasses on the finish.

Only points off for being too West Coast. This is a great bock. Deep mahogany beautiful in the glass, light head. Taste us rich roasted malts, a bit Baltic porter-like qualities with that rich maltiness and clean finish. Again, this is more of a porter than a bock...but I like it.

Bottled sample via boutip. Medium brown in colour with ruby hints. Aromas of malt, caramel, and red berries. Malt forward in flavor, as one would expect from the style, without any let-up in dark berry (raspebrry and cherry) fruit. A bit of dark caramel near the finish, along with a bit of minerals. Thick bodied, and fairly sweet. A rich and fruity drink.
