Commercial Description:
Keg and bottle: Filtered.
First brewed in 2005.
Ingredients: Finest barley malts, wheat malts, and fresh whole hops.
Bock beer, released in celebration of the arrival of spring, is an ancient and mysterious part of the brewing tradition. Over time, the term "bock" has come to mean a beer darker and stronger than the brewery’s regular brew. This is the first time we have brewed a bock at Anchor Brewing Co., and we hope you will find it to be a rich and flavorful addition to our offerings. San Francisco’s Anchor Bock Beer is virtually handmade by the brewers of Anchor Steam® Beer, in one of the most traditional small breweries in the world.

Pours a clear brown color with ruby highlights and a medium diminishing tan head. Very nice aroma of red fruits (cherries, raspberries) with rich malt and caramel. The flavor is also very solid with a nice mix of cherries, raspberries, caramel and rich malt, the hops aren’t really noticeable but there’s a mild bitterness in the end. The body has a medium thickness with an oily texture and gentle carbonation. Anchor impresses me with this very enjoyable bock.

Bieropholie, 12 oz. bottle, cellar temp, tulip glass. MA28/07.

App.: Deep ruby, clear, foamy full tan head. Aroma: Sweet and malty – molasses and treacle; light vanilla, chocolate and nuttiness; a little wood. Palate: Medium body, medium soft carbonation, smooth. Flav.: Very much like the nose; a little more woody and earthy with hints of herbal hops; off-dry, moderate bitterness.

Nice but not spectacular.

Dark black body that glows red in light. Thich foamy white-brown head that last pretty well. Aroma is of chocolate and breadish in the start. Gets more sour and of grapes later on. Flavor is also bready and roasted its get more grape-sour after a while. Palate is medium and leaves a harch aftertaste, like the one you get if you bite the seeds from a grape.

(Bottle) Dark reddish brown colour with firm, beige head, leaving traces of lacing. Slightly roasted nose with chocolate fudge, cocoa, dark rye bread and fruity hints of red berries. Some smokey notes as well. Roasted taste with dark chocolate, cocoa, raisins, dark rye bread and bittersweet notes of coffee and cocoa in the finish. Slightly below medium body, where the finish seems to fall through rather early. Nice, tasty and very chocolatey, but a bit short.

Dark brown color; big head. A Bock based on the caramel character, with a tired caramel aroma (oxydized), a quite good body strength, dry caramel taste and also an evident roasted malt line in the flavor.
