Burnt coffee, malty aroma, flavor follows with added cocoa and sweet caramel, toffee. A nicely complex brew, seems like a dark lager with stout characteristics. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 8, 2006 Dark color with pleasing carbonation and a rocky mocha head. Aroma of caramel with notes of cardboard. Started off with a very chilled sample, yet lovely carmel flavorings still leaked out. Crisp caramel throughout the session with a burnt finish and balanced sweetness. Very impressed with this latest selection from Anchor. kramer (2488), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Oct 6, 2006 12 oz bottle, via fordest. Pours a very dark brown with a ruby glow, clear, under a smallish fizzy brown head that retained as a thin film. Aroma is very malty and clean. Quite thick and slightly syrupy with a touch of vanilla, alcohol, and Frangelico liquor. Flavor is all malt with some coffee, alcohol, and a light acidity. Fairly thin flavor though. Mouthfeel is where this beer really loses it though. It’s quite thin with a watery texture up front and a slightly sticky finish. No body or chewiness that I want from a Bock. Overall, I just don’t think that this brought enough to the table. I’m a fan of Anchor, but this just didn’t do it for me. apoptosis (1316), Long Island, New York, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 3, 2006 Dark reddish-brown body with a small, but tasty-looking tan, small-bubbled head. Very malty, crips aroma. This is surprisingly dry for a bock, IMHO. Crisp, refreshing finish. It is smooth and easy to drink. A little thin in the flavor - not enough "umph", but overall its a decent beer. notalush (2684), Denver, Colorado, USA

Caramel malts and roasty goings-on in the aroma. Toffee, caramel and liquorice on the palate. Touches of chocolate and plummy fruit too. Distinctly sweet. Nice enough, but struggled to make too much of an impression amongst the stellar line up on offer on the day.

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 28, 2006 (12oz bottle) Purchased at Spinnakers Ale Merchant for an insanely cheap $2.65. Pours a thin, lasting brown head with a deep, near opaque, reddish-brown body. Nose of strong caramel malt and bourbon residue. Flavour is strong of a smokey gouda, blackberries and slight coffee ground with an oily texture. Its a well rounded and very drinkable beer. Goldorak (439), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Sep 25, 2006 Sampled multiple times at the brewery during my tour of the place, 12sep2006.
Quite dark, turned sanguine red when exposed to the light. Very nice sustained half inch of head.
Interesting caramel malts, and as hoppy as a Bock can be.
Plenty of malt body and well dosed carbonation, it does have a bit of a vegetal taste to it, but I didn’t really see it as such a bad thing. Kind of like bitter rhubarb, and the malt sweetness tames the harshness of it. But it’s the finish that I didn’t like, as it was ashy, something I don’t like at all, at least not at this level.
