Commercial Description:
Keg and bottle: Filtered.
First brewed in 2005.
Ingredients: Finest barley malts, wheat malts, and fresh whole hops.
Bock beer, released in celebration of the arrival of spring, is an ancient and mysterious part of the brewing tradition. Over time, the term "bock" has come to mean a beer darker and stronger than the brewery’s regular brew. This is the first time we have brewed a bock at Anchor Brewing Co., and we hope you will find it to be a rich and flavorful addition to our offerings. San Francisco’s Anchor Bock Beer is virtually handmade by the brewers of Anchor Steam® Beer, in one of the most traditional small breweries in the world.

Bottle a gift from Odeed, thanks Jacob; Nose at first showed apples, then changed to caramel malt and raisins; color dark but transparent brown with a medium tan head; flavor malty with chocolate, caramel, and molasses.

Bottle thanks to JohnC. Poured a rich, deep, clear mahogany with ruby highlights... medium cap of toffee headage. Nose grew on me as this warmed... with burnt caramel, lightly-smoked darker fruits, rum-soaked raisins, and cocoa.. along with woodsy hops. This was even better in the flavor department... with a chocolate and rummy-raisin sweet malt base accented by damp freshly-cut wood, molasses, and caramel. The finish was sweet and a tad smoky. Medium-bodied, sweet, and smooth... but a tad grainy on the back-end. This was an excellent beer and a pleasant surprise!

Deep caramel minimal tan head. The aroma is carmel and herbs. The flavor is pretty damn nice, caramel, molasses, dark ripe fruits. medium-full palate. Quite good.

Beer #4 RBSG 06. Almost passed on trying this since I’m not a big fan of the style, but then I figured, what the heck? Very dark brown, slight head. Light wort aroma. Flavor matched, straight up sweet wort, but there was a hint of chocolate and light berry notes. Not bad, but still just not my bag.

Draft at San Diego Brewing Company. Sweet malty aromas come off this really dark brown/ruby pour. Very bready nose. Flavors were dark and malty as well. Yeast notes and a subtler but decent hop finish. Not Bad.

12oz bottle via trade with JoeMcPhee! - Thanks Joe! - Pours a beautiful dark mahogony with ruby highlights and a nice tan creamy head. Aromas of sweet caramel malts, raisin, and some light coffee. Flavor is caramel, raisin, a touch of chocolate, quite malty with some delightful dark fruit notes as well. Palate is smooth and creamy without much carbonation and medium body. Finishes with a fruity aftertaste. This is really good and probably my favorite bock of all time.

Bottle shared with GregClow, jerc & tupalev -- courtesy of GregClow via HogTownHarry. Pours a very dark deep ruby with an average size lasting tan head -- looks quite good. Aroma of sweet malt, dark fruit and hops. Nice chocolately and fruity flavour with some caramel malt and a light bitter finish -- a touch watery. Light to medium bodied. Pretty good, a nice version of the style.
