Commercial Description:
Keg and bottle: Filtered.
First brewed in 2005.
Ingredients: Finest barley malts, wheat malts, and fresh whole hops.
Bock beer, released in celebration of the arrival of spring, is an ancient and mysterious part of the brewing tradition. Over time, the term "bock" has come to mean a beer darker and stronger than the brewery’s regular brew. This is the first time we have brewed a bock at Anchor Brewing Co., and we hope you will find it to be a rich and flavorful addition to our offerings. San Francisco’s Anchor Bock Beer is virtually handmade by the brewers of Anchor Steam® Beer, in one of the most traditional small breweries in the world.

12oz bottle. Creamy pour...dark brown...tan head. looks rich. Earthy, piney, burnt aroma is fairly present and interesting...pine resin is the dominate smell. Somewhat reminds me of the OSA. The taste shows even more piney resin. nice creamy thick mouthfeel, finishes with serious resin. Not striking me in any way as a German beer. Maybe this is just left over OSA??? I’m not knocking it for not being German, rather I’m knocking it for being too much like OSA, which I really dislike for the most part...a beer that can honestly only be drank once a year in very small quantities isn’t a great beer.

Brown pour, nice foamy head. Toasted malt, caramel, and some light resin. Flavor is a bit malty sweet but finishes with a really well balanced hop bite. Nice brew.

pours out dark brown and thick with a tall frothy coffee colored head that was bubbly. the body is dark and no light penetrated the body. the aromas are toffee and roasted malts. theres some caramel, and plum present. its not bitter to the nose, but rather sweet. it is light bodied and nicely carbonated and finishes pretty dry. i taste caramel, sugar, some pepper, and lightly roasted malts. its refreshing and has a nice aftertaste. it doesnt linger to long and is plesent.

Bottle from Utobeer. Very dark ruby, thin tan head. Yes a little bocky on aroma, some fresh prune, some jammy fruit. Yes its a half decent beer, with a lot of dry malt in the mouth and on the swallow. Some faint hop sting on the end. Its fine. Quite drinkable.

Resin and herbal aroma. Poured a gorgeous dark red color with great head retention. Excellent initial taste of citrus, floral, and hay. However, I don’t like the lingering bitter after taste. I don’t mind the hoppy after taste, but idk what I taste afterwards, perhaps I got a bad batch. Overall this is a good beer. I’ll try another batch later on and adjust my score if need be.

Pours dark brown with a small dense tan head that leaves some stringy lace. Sweet and roasty caramel and toffee aroma. Similar flavor with a hint of dark fruit. Rich mouthfeel with light carbonation and a slightly bitter finish.

Poured cloudy and brown with reddish highlights. A two-finger tall, off-white head appeared and offered average lacing. The aroma was lots of malts, light toffee and slightly metallic. The flavor was malts, toffee, unchecked alcohol and a touch of chocolate. Almost medium in body. Didn’t quite come together for me. The weird combination of metal and alcohol on the finish really distracted me.

Pours a dark reddish brown. Minor light brown head. Dark and murky but glassy on the exterior. Heavy cherry sweet liqueur smell, like a barleywine. Roasted malt is nutty and also sweet; brown sugary. Some mild grape notes. Harsh sweet cherry flavor mixed with burnt, nutty malt. Brown sugar with grainy barley. Molasses and corn syrup. Feels syrupy and thick. Has a sharp little bite on the back of the tongue. Ashy and substantial. Good, but not great. Strong and sweetly roasted.
