Bottle. OMG. Dark copper body, with a small off-white head. Aroma is fruity, candy sugar, malt. Aroma is fruity, candy sugar, dark fruits. A bit hoppy, but not much for a barley wine. Fantastic beer.

2008 on tap at Brouwer’s Hard Liver ’09. Pours brownish amber with a thin off-white head. Weird nose with a lot of banana and a little bit of malt, hops, and alcohol. Strange, but not unpleasant. Tastes much the same. Nice thick mouthfeel.

On tap at Brouwer’s Hard Liver 09. Pours copper with a small head. Literally like it had sugar added. Hoppy, but it has way too much malt. It counters and overpowers. Bubble gum and a bit of caramel. Too mild - needs more hops and a darker contingent of malts. Least favorite on the night.

12oz bottle from Total Wine (Tampa, FL). Pours a ruby red amber color with a thin off-white head that settles quickly to nothing. Aroma is sweet and floral with notes of citrus, pine, caramel, malt, honey, hints of toffee chocolate. Flavor is also sweet and floral with similar notes of citrus, pine, chocolate, caramel, honey, and hints of toffee and syrup. Generally medium body with a pleasing sweet toffee malt finish.

Sampled at the Hopsnobbery Collective barley wine tasting on 3.14.09. Clear amber pour with a thin off-white head. Nail polish remover aroma, which is a bit surprising seeing as this is one of the weaker offerings of the evening in terms of ABV. Boozy and malty aroma with plenty of sugar.

Bottle. Pours brownish color with a medium head. Has a sweet aroma. Malts and toffee in there with some chocolate. Flavor is sweeter and weaker for a barley wine.

Bottled. Chesnut-coloured and a bit hazy beer. The head is thin, blond and creamy. The aroma is hoppy and it has lots of sweet dried fruits like dates and prunes. The hops in the finish are herbal and resiny. Some alcohol in the finish too. The flaovr is sweet, raisiny, fruity and sligthly bitter. Intense and syrupy maltiness, almost like liqueur. Fruitier in the finish. Alcohol flavor is barely noticalbe. The palate is full bodied, thick and syrupy: very sticky on the lips. The alcohol gives warmth in the finish. There could be some more hops in it. Still a very enjoyable and really malty BW.

Pours a deep orange. Thin head that fades away quickly and leaves little lacing. Aroma predominantly grassy and citric, with a slight note of alcohol. Syrupy mouthfeel, but not unpleasantly so. Malty, caramel sweetness is strong, but well balanced by a nice hop bitterness and good hop flavor. Dangerously easy drinking, and a very pleasant beer.
