Aroma was sweet, dark fruits, and oak. Taste was dark fruits, malt and a nice sweet with a warming alcohol finish. Texture was nice and rolled down into my belly. Thanks Bruce for sharing. The aroma was sweet fruit. Taste was sweet as well, the flavor changed with each sip. Plums, malty, sweet fruits.... After almost ten years of sitting it definelty mellowed out. It was very easy to drink. The texture was oily and practically slid down the throat. Thanks bruce for sharing, this beer was very enjoyable. nuplastikk (1252), Madison, Wisconsin, USA

Thick, opaque red-brown color. Holds up quite well with aging. Creamy and rich, with some toffee notes as well. Sweet, and just mellow enough to cover the alcohol up in a smooth, classic Barleywine fashion. A classic. LordCrabapple (83), Merseyside, England

My first taste reminded me of treacle toffee or toffee apples. An absolute delight! And it retains the Anchor taste...A great barley wine. I look forward to the day when I can drink it again. pellegjr (26), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 21, 2008 12oz bottle. Wow a pleasant tasty barleywine. Clear and dark, reddish amber color with a small, mostly fading head. Strong, toffeeish, grainy-malty aroma with berries, plums, and lots of aromatic hops. Fruity, very grainy-malty, slightly roasty, moderately caramely-sweet flavor with some oakiness, and balancing hop bitterness. Alcohol is well-hidden behind the sweetish malt. Medium to full-bodied, warming palate with low to medium carbonation. An enjoyable and balanced, yet easily drinkable barley wine.

A true sipper seems to have more alcohol than the 9% listed. Gets extra points for being so affordable dmac (1504), Toms River, New Jersey, USA

Ok when I poured this one I couldn’t believe it was 12 years old...it poured a very murky brown like a classic BW but with a very active bubly off white/light beige head that left a good amount of lace. Aroma is magnificiant, carael..toffee..raisins..butterscotch and vanilla.., slight touh of alcohol and wood. Palate is shot on this one..totally smoth with no carboantion despite what the head would leave you to believe. Flat lifeless not much else to say. Flavor is malt forward and nice, caramel, toffee, doughy bread and raisin. I could sniff this one all night but alas not many of us have the ourtunity to sniff 12 year old vinatge barleywines so I am spoiled.......still I sniffed a lot.
