Appealing aroma, bright and fruity with some light hops and molasses. Light amber color with some carbonation and a light bubbly head. The palate turns from light and smooth to tangy. Bittersweet upfront with heavy pine and hop overtones. Enjoyable and easy to drink.

Bottle. Nose is nice. Hazelnuts, caramel, figs, and a touch of copper. Dark amber with active carbonation up to not much of a head. Flavor is cloyingly sweet, overwhelming and showing a lot of alcohol. Not terrible, but really unbalanced for a young American barleywine. Could benefit from some hop balance. Smooth and delightful on the tongue, though.

Deep caramel color with substantial light tan head. No lacing, little retention. Smells of toffee and booziness. Some nuttiness and caramel malt aromas. Boozy dark fruit, sweet maltiness, peppery notes, a small dose of piney hops for balance. Brown sugar, grape, and bittersweet chocolate all make an appearance. A bit thin in body, and low in carbonation. Notable alcohol presence. Pleasantly warming and easy to drink, however.

Pours brown to ruby red into the glass with a slight haze to it. Has a good-sized tan colored head. Very fragrant, aroma is of sweet fruit, malt, and a little hops. Flavors include dark fruit, slight citrus, alcohol, and hop overtones. On tap, Flying Saucer Ft. Worth.

Thanks to Ian for letting me raid his beer fridge and rate this one. Another great beer that I have had on many occasion and never rated. Pours dark reddish amber with a thin off white head. Malty nutty caramel sweet malt and pronounced alcohol aroma. Taste is big and malty, raisin and big alcohol. Very drinkable for the strength. Very good.

Special thanks to ilovedarkbeer for this one. Indicated 9.4% abv. This brew is upfront and strong in every sense. This is a bright sparkling amber brew with a light brown head that goes away quickly. The aroma is strong of floral hops, alcohol, ginger and raisins (also some bready malts and yeast). The flavor is fruity and malty with a strong alcohol presence. Creamy mouthfeel.

Bottle thanks to mashmaster. I believe from the markings that this is a 2003 bottle, but it might be older than that. Pours with no heead and a hazy amber body. Aroma has a bit of soy, toffee, caramel, raisins and brandy. THere are some reminants of hops, and a touch of sherry. Taste is raisins, brandy and sherry. Syrupy mouthfeel.

This bottle came home with me from San Francisco. The pour is a very dark clouded orange, with a minimal, wispy off-white head. A little more head would have been nice, but the depth of the body colour compensates, and helps the drink to look very attractive in the tulip. The aroma smells strongly of raisins that have been soaking on brandy. Its rich, deep, sweet and malty. The taste is fruity, with strong element of cherry and fig dancing around a sweet caramel malt punch. Hops put in an appearance in the warming finish, but do not feel out of place. The body is full and viscous, matching the style of a sipper well.

12 oz. bottle poured into snifter- poured an exemplary verbose 80-85 % transparent, color of mahogany with shades of amber that embower the glass. 1% carbonation. Aroma of malt, alcohol, and young plums. Hits the mouth with a medium body, an ever so slight cough syrup quality to it, finish remains constant with the alcohol coming through. If only I could drink this draught and smoke at the same time in a bar in Austin.
