Brownish/red/coudy color that produces almost zero head. Aroma is fruity (raisins, dates). Flavor is sweet and fruity. Tastes a little potent but the alcohol content is well hidden. The flavor that remains on the palate is equally sweet and fruity.

rich mahogany, dark and little head. smells like it was aged in new oak. brulee, raisin and alcohol too. mild nutty almond soft pillowy brown sugar. no bite on the tongue. barleywine you can gulp.

Bottle. Poured an attractive reddish brown with very little head and almost no lacing. Slightly sweet aroma of dark fruit and malt with just a whiff of hop presence. Flavor of malt and dark fruit with a bit of hop bitterness. Also a hint of sweetmness. I thought this was pretty tasty but, would like to age a few bottles for several months.

Pours dark ruby red from 12 oz bottle. I must say, this is one of the most attractive beer bottles from the USA. Aroma of dark candied yams, berries, yeast, toffee, caramels with a hint of pine. Flavour is of plums, cherries, malts, hops, pine resins, and a bit of vanilla. A very nice BW beer, reminds me of a belgium strong ale...nice beer from Anchor Brewing.

Poured an attractive dark ruby/copper color with almost no head, whatsoever. Aroma is of dark fruit. Taste is also of dark fruit and caramel. I can see how this would really improve with aging. Pretty smooth for something of 9%ABV. Would like to put a couple of these back and re-assess in a year or so.

Labeled 4FD which means this is from February 4, 2004. Writing from notes, I opened this on February 4, 2006, two years old. Poured a dull amber color that had a tan head but lasted only for a moment, left some lacing but very little. Caramel, sweet and dark fruits, and a tiney hint of pine composed the smell. It tasted of sweet malt, dark fruit, and pine. It starts off sweet and then the hops kick in for a nice balance, not a strong hop taste however. Low carbonation, medium to full bodied, seemed to suit this beer quite well. Pretty good to drink after a meal as the label says, but I wouldn’t do it everyday.

Dark amber beer; aroma is caramel and dried fruit; alcohol bite with subtle sweetness and slight hops; warm, dried fruit finish. An excellent sipping ale.

Hazy dark red brown beer with tiny head. Sweet malty aroma with hints of hops, chocolate and liqurice. Flavor is malty with a bitter finish and a delicious warming alcohol troughout. Very drinkable.
