Bottle from 2004. Easy drinking, but nothing special. I think I’m over the barley wine craze of a few years back. PS: Anchor, please step into the 21st Century and brew a new beer.

Great BW here. Perfect balance of sweet and hops. Nice bit of alcohol bite too, this one goes down very easy.

Bottled. Sweetshop sweepings aroma, decapitated head, candied scratchings that threaten to cloy before an old malt struggles through. Raisin edges left on the tounge. More than barely a barley wine but not as alcofrolicly warming as I’d like.

This one leans more on the malt side than some of the brews in this style (Bigfoot, Hog Heaven etc). Strong on flavor, with a sweet, incredibly smooth finish, and very well balanced. Great example of the barleywine species.

Bottled @ Svenska Dagar, Pikkulintu, Helsinki. Subtle, alcoholic, raisiny sweet aroma. No head, red hazy colour. Taste very good, not too sweet, very nutty.

Rich amber color with a fading brown head. Aroma is intensely figgy and appley sweet. Taste is same, but lightly oxidized, and not particularly alcoholic. $2.75/12oz

Bottle Opaque pour with small head. Thick barley wine aroma. Flavor and palate isn’t as thick. Decent barley wine. Not great.

full body, lively, long finish... This is a favorite served at Naja’s on Redondo Beach Pier. My friend Bret and I would go down to quality Seafood for a clam chowder breadbowl and finish our trip off with a large glass of this beast of beers.
