| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 23, 2007 (Tap) Pours a deep mahogany color with a sparkling appearance and little head. Aroma of dark fruits and brown sugar. Malty, with a nice caramel and toffee backbone. Sticky and sweet, with a decent amount of alcohol warming as well. A decent barleywine, but a little too sweet for my tastes. BlackForestCO (829), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA

Poured a deep red color and had an appealing sweet smell. Little head to speak of. Nice malt flavor, including caramel. A slight fruit taster present, but I can’t put my finger on what it is. I was surprised how reserved the hop presence was. A nice barley wine. NickVega (73), Eugene, Oregon, USA

(don’t count Old Nick) -- Used to get $5 happy hour Liters at Naja’s - those were the days. I lay out the $3 for one of these now and then. Good unique flavor, consistently! tgncc (845), Bellmore, New York, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 17, 2007 Sweet smell, like sherry, very appealing. Little bit of caramel in the malt, and a slight citrusy smell, maybe from hops. Beautiful ruby red color, hazy, slight white head. Nice sweet flavor, caramel, toffee and a noticeable amount of hops. The alcohol is relatively well hidden. Oily mouthfeel, leave a little sweetness on the palate, like a port wine or sherry. A VERY nice beer, I highly recommend this. Note: it is a little pricey, however. hughie (3086), Bedford, Bedfordshire, England
