2001: The taste is dominated by a smokey hop blend. A little different, very interesting and well balanced.

Same as the christmas ale, Dark ruby color, nice light frothy head, spicy candy like flavor, dry hoppy finish.

1994 bottle. tried this in 2001, amazing. the spices mixed well together, no carbonation, no hint of bacteria, just a well rounded smooth, evenly spiced beer that had sat very well. (4.5 rating) 2001 bottle(4.1 rating). Had this in 2003. This beer greatly benefited from cellaring. The flavor has evened out and it reminds me of oharas celtic just because it gets that wonderful, full body that is almost chalky smooth. Good even chocolate and roast notes with not too much on the licorice. Hardly any carbonation makes me love it that much more. 2000 bottle tried in 2000. Beer seems less spicy this year than 01 or 02. Less of a stout here, as there is not as much syrup texture. More in balance and an easier drink, but less adventurous than many other years (4.3 rating)
2001 bottle in Nov ’06 Absolutely sublime, with hardly any negative oxidative qualities. Still poured a large head, with light lacing. Spicy, but nowhere near the level it is now. Fruitiness and light caramel malt with vanilla and even some light hops. Impressive how well these beers hold up.

2000 ed.: Statuesque cloves and cinnamon on endless carpets of sweet licorice and roasted malt…Grand molasses and heavy caramel…These guys make good stuff…

2004, drank 1994: Excellent, still spicy, but a bit more mellow. 2002 '97-'02 vertical, I'm saying 3 to 4 years is best. It's good when it comes out, but wait damn it! (2001): Not ready to drink yet. A bit harsh. (2000) Nutmeg and vanilla. (1999) Nutmeg and pumpkin pie. (1998 drank in early 2002) I think that it is molasses that I smell and taste. Crap, why did I smoke for 10 years! (1997) Mellow taste compared to other years. Very nice in 2001.
