Dusty spice nose with cinnomon, clove, ginger and a malty sweetness. Flavor has lots of bitter chocolate, ginger, cinnomon, roasted grains, with a very piney hop finish. Not my favorite of the OSA, but always a treat. And these beers are always better on tap. oldrtybastrd (1846), Morlautern, Germany/Great Falls, Montana, USA

I still think 2003 wins. 2004 was just over the top with extreme spices and harsh roastedness. While they backed off the spruce (maybe left it out entirely) a year’s age failed to mellow this porcupine. Just too much edge on the palate this vintage. GregClow (2516), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Deep brown colour with a wispy mocha head. Aroma is sweet and Christmasy - cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and a slightly boozy warmth. Mouthfeel is smooooooth, very nice. Flavour has lots of well-integrated flavours - dried fruit, spice, dark roasted malt, and a nicely hopped finish. Beautiful stuff! blankboy (3260), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 10, 2005 Huge magnum at ’December at DougShoemaker’s 2005’ -- courtesy of tupalev. Pours a very dark ruby-brown with a large rocky light-brown head -- looks great! Wonderful aroma of Xmas spices and gingerbread cookies -- I loved it. The flavour of sweet malt and spices is a little too mild, I preferred it on tap. Medium to full bodied, nicely carbonated. I wouldn’t drink this often but it makes for a nice treat every now and then -- a really good winter beer. CaptainCougar (5538), Rockville, Maryland, USA

Has a very nice, enticing spiced aroma with some sweet earthy maltiness and cinnamon. Body starts with a some mild caramel toffee sweetness quickly overtaken by the warming potpourri of spices. Very nice and mellow. A great, very drinkable winter brew. Thanks Jason! tupalev (2618), Waterloo, Ontario, Canada
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 9, 2005 1-year-old magnum at Doug’s, Christmas 2005. Dark brown, thick brown head - looks good. Wonderful earthy spice aroma - it is very unique, lots of fig and nutmeg as well. Taste is very spicy as well. Medium mouthfeel. The whole is almost cola like but it works. I have recently had the 2005 and I found this to be more intense in flavour and aroma. jrob21 (1279), Atlanta, Georgia, USA

Thanks to Santa for hooking me up with a cellared beer of his. I love trying this one each year. This years is a nice dark amber color. Malty taste with nice caramel and spice flavors and smells. Only problem is the fact that it is a little thin and quick to finish.
